This vehicle needs
nothing but a new caring owner and a new home. The previous owner never
smoked in this car and it was always meticulously
maintained and stored in a heated garage in CT.
The original owner of the vehicle owned a company called "vintage Mercedes parts". His company serviced and restored classic Mercedes cars. In 1979, the vehicle was sold to his neighbor and its current owner and it has stayed in his possession for the past 45 years. The car was always stored in a climate controlled environment and you can tell this because you will not find a spec of rust on this vehicle. It looks like it rolled off the showroom floor yesterday. The previous owner told me the car had only been washed a few times. He would take the vehicle out for a short drive, and put it back into the garage, dust it off, and under a car cover it went. The convertible top was always down on the car, he never had the top up at all. He never drove the car in cold or wet weather, so he never used it. The top is in immaculate condition with no tears or cracks. Even the rear windows look clear and like new.
Up until last week, this was the first time since 1979 that the hardtop had been installed on the vehicle. The hardtop sat in the garage for 45 years on a factory hardtop stand. The hardtop and the hardtop stand are in great condition and are included with the sale.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, I learned that even the radio and the power antenna are original to the vehicle. I also learned that all the rubber seals and weather stripping are also original and have date codes on them. The convertible top also appears to be original. In the trunk, you will find the original spare tire, its never been mounted. You will also find the original Jack with the tag still on it and the complete tool kit. All the glass on the vehicle is original and has the Mercedes logos on every piece. When we removed the wheels to check the brakes, we learned that the vehicle still had the original factory brake pads! All the proper stickers and tags are present on this vehicle. Its just unbelievable! If you look closely, you will see that the car still has its original Bosch aluminum wiper arms! These were always thrown away after the first wiper change and cant be ordered anymore. The only non-original item on the vehicle is an aftermarket cell phone that was installed back in the 90's (we have the phone handset).
We have all the original documentation for the vehicle. I have all the original owners manuals, pouches, and booklets. I have all the original service booklets and warranty cars. We have the original top removal tools and the case that they came in. I have the original date coded flashlight mounted in the glove box. I have everything that you could want with this car. If it came with it new, I have it.
Every part on this car can be date coded and found to be original. Only the most basic maintenance items have been changed over the years. All major parts are original. That will give you some idea of how new this car is and how preserved it is.
This Mercedes 450SL is loaded up with practically every possible option that could have been ordered. It has MB Tex seats, both hard and soft top, optional light weight alloy wheels, glove box flashlight, power windows, power locks, dual remote mirrors, power antenna with original AM/FM Becker Mexico radio, cruise control, intermittent wipers, AC, full set of factory gauges, and so much more.
This vehicle
was
very well cared for and it shows. The
maintenance is all current and the vehicle is reliable and
runs like a dream. The car has matching Michellin tires on it that are in great condition and do not leak at all. We just installed a new battery less than 100 miles ago and we went through this vehicle from the top to bottom to make sure every single feature in the vehicle works the way it should. We have
driven this vehicle around town and
it seems to be running
and driving 100%. The motor and transmission
fluids are all very clean and the vehicle has good brakes, good rotors,
and good windshield wiper blades. The vehicle is ready to go now without issues. The car steers arrow
straight without you even having to hold the steering wheel and the ride is tight and responsive. I have posted several short video of
the cars features and I have posted over 100 photos of the vehicle so
you get an idea of what you are buying.
The
exterior of the vehicle is super clean. The body panels are all perfect
and the paintwork is original and in perfect shape. The
paint is glossy and the vehicle looks like its only a couple of years
old. You can see your reflection in the paint of this vehicle. The
exterior is in great condition and super mint. The soft top is original and there is absolutely no wear on the top at all and all the top handles work perfectly. There is no unusual flaws to point out on the exterior at all. Its
just a great vehicle.
The
interior
of the vehicle is like brand new. The seats are in great condition
and the MB Tex is supple and clean. The door panels are also in perfect
condition and
clean with no blemishes at all. The dash board has a couple very small minor hairline cracks by the vents (seems to be very common with blue dashboards) but nothing major at all. All the trimmings and other interior trims are in
perfect condition with no cracks or delamination. The interior is in
fantastic condition in my
opinion.
This car
is being sold as-is, where-is, and there is no warranties expressed or
implied. The vehicle is located in Brooklyn, NY and will need to be
picked up there. The car is being sold with a current registration and Q-1 form from Connecticut. Connecticut does not issues titles for vehicles this old, but this should be all you need in order to gain title for the vehicle in your state. If you would like to see the car and test drive it,

local area, I will assist in any way possible in having the car shipped
to you at your cost. A $500 non-refundable deposit must be made within
24 hours on the auctions end. The remaining balance must be paid in
full by 3 days after the closing of the auction unless other
arrangements are discussed with me in advance. I do drive this vehicle to shows, so the mileage on the vehicle may be slightly higher at the end
