About the model
The Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible was a variant of the Volkswagen Beetle Type 1, introduced in 1971. The Super Beetle convertible had a rear-end, air-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine and rear-wheel drive as well. The Super Beetle convertible, as its Coupe sibling, was the result of a significant update of the Beetle's suspension and overall size. This variant replaced the torsion bar front suspension with MacPherson struts with coil springs. It retained the flat windscreen and the luggage area increased to 9 cu ft. Offered as a restyled version, sales were not as expected so the Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible ended production in 1979.
