Fun driving 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 - nicknamed the “Green Machine”. I have recently done the following after sitting in an indoor storage since 2019. All mechanical parts are Toyota OEM. I drained the old fuel, replaced fuel filter, new fuel filler cap, new fuel pressure regulator, cleaned the throttle body, replaced a few vacuum lines, oil change, new battery, new front and rear wipers, transfer case fluid exchange, new accelerator pedal cover, reconditioned the thermostat housing, replaced the thermostat & gaskets plus four new bolts, flushed cooling system with Toyota Red coolant, new coolant temperature sending sensor, new radiator cap, replaced exterior front parking lights, new grill, new windshield, new front swaybar end link bushings, four new KYB shocks, four new 15” Smoothies wrapped in new 30x9.50R15 mud-terrain tires. New front disc brake pads and new rear brake drum shoes with a new rebuilt kit.

Master power door lock and power window switch were serviced. The window “Lock” switch is now open so all the windows work perfectly from the Master switch. Left and right power mirrors and radio antenna work perfectly. Two new exhaust manifold down-pipes. One new catalytic converter and a new muffler tail pipe. New rear transfer case output shaft seal, new driver-side rain gutter chrome trim. Stitched front driver seat(1.5” rip). Topped R12 freon(A/C blows cold). I was going to install a dash cap, but instead I had the dash serviced to keep it original. It's not perfect but looks much better and still original. New fuse panel cover with decal. New upper tailgate struts. Full interior detail with shampoo. Full exterior ceramic coating. Full undercarriage detail with coating. Two new Toyota keys cut to the original VIN.

Original spare wheel was remounted. A/C blows cold. No over-heating issues. No rough idle. Does not burn oil. And she fires right up!

Suspension rides nice and tight on the new shocks and swaybar end link bushings. All exterior and interior lights work! Master door lock switch works. Even the rear heater works. Not pictured but a new dome light lense cover was added.

The following items are not functioning and/or need attention: slow intermittent rear main seal leak, rear wiper(washer fluid motor does work), driver-side front axle knuckle has small gear oil leak, radio turns on but there is no sound. To keep it original, I did not replace the radio head unit with a modern one. I also did not rebuild the front axle in case the new buyer wants to add a lift and re-gear the axles.

The receiver hitch was removed but the bolts needed to be cut off due to rusty bolts. The rear mudflaps were removed and signs of rust only appeared on the passenger rear fender where the mudflaps mount to. There is also a small amount of rust on the very bottom of the rear passenger door and a small patch on the outer edge corner of the passenger front door. Please see the pictures and watch my YouTube video for specific images. They are not as bad as one may think on a 60-series Cruiser.

The previous owner had the vehicle painted dark emerald metallic green, to match his 80-series Land Cruiser. The paint is more of a dull color now with hardly any clear coat left. It is ceramic coated for protection. In my opinion, it looks good as is. However, some may prefer the application of clear coat to bring back the gloss. 

My objective was to bring this FJ62 Cruiser back to life and back on the road, while preserving as much of its originality, as possible. It’s safe, reliable and fun to drive!
