EXTERIOR: This is a stunning Pace Car with its bold stripes and ram air scoops! All the metal is clean, there's no rust or paint bubbles. The doors shut like new. The factory ram air hood is in excellent shape, and it also has correct 1970 only sport mirrors. The Porcelain white paint is smooth and glossy. Correct black decal stripes are outlined in red. The power convertible top appears to be replaced and in excellent condition. It's stanced correctly on its body color SS ll 15" Rally wheels with Goodyear tires. The windshield appears original, but in very great shape. The chrome is in good shape with minor imperfections. The grills, bezels, and chrome look like new.
INTERIOR: Beautiful interior in very good condition. All the knobs, window cranks, and trim pieces look really good. The dash features the factory Tic-Toc Tachometer and an Am-Fm radio. The Tilt column has a sport wheel. A Hurst dual gate shifter sits in the console between 2 bucket seats. They've been reupholstered and in great shape. Door panels look good too.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The engine bay is very representable. Sitting in the center is the correct 455ci with correct heads, and it's all stock. The manifold, valve covers, and ram air air cleaner are all proper. The power brakes, power steering, hoses, clamps, and fluid reservoir look to be correct.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid has been painted glossy smooth with factory stickers, the jambs and weather stripping look great. It has the correct spatter paint finish that is in great condition with a two-piece trunk liner mat. There's even a matching spare wheel/tire with mount and jack, and Oldsmobile specific lug wrench!
UNDERSIDE: It is not detailed but it looks honest, solid, and proper. The floors appear to be original, not rusted, patched, or camouflaged with undercoat. but free of any rot. It has the original Rally suspension which gives you boxed control arms in the rear, heavy duty sway bars front and rear. The springs, shocks, sway bar bushings, lower ball joints look recently replaced. The power brakes are disc up front and drum in the rear. E-brake is hooked up. The dual trumpet tip exhaust has a nice deep grunt with this big block and is a pleasant sound. This incredibly torque-rich powerplant is teamed with GM's 400 Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission. It has its original 12 bolt Posi traction 3.23 rear end.
SERVICE: Through our onsite shop inspection, we recalibrated the speedometer, repaired interior dash lights, replaced a headlight, front end alignment, replaced radiator bypass hose, new lock cylinders and new valve cover gaskets.
Rare is the keyword when describing this pace car 442. It's not a frame off restoration however it's been well kept, and all the key components have been replaced or restored to keep this unique pace car looking great over the years. Only 268 lucky people snagged these when new, and you could be the new owner with even less of them in existence today.
