1968 Mercedes 280 SL Convertible with removable hardtop (matching number) and RARE 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION.

I purchased this car in 2013 planning to finish the previously started restoration.  I had bodywork done and a new silver paint job, but then life got in the way and it has been sitting under cover ever since. I decided to sell it to help with rebuilding my barn after a tragic fire

This description is from the previous seller when I purchased the car.
"Up for sale, a very nice Mercedes 280SL with removable hardtop (matching number).  Exterior paint color is white and the interior is dark blue.  The soft top is worn and will need to be replaced.  All the bows are excellent and working.  I removed all the trim, chrome, windshield, windows, carpets, seats, seat belts, etc. in preparation for complete restoration.  I ordered new floor pans for the driver side and the trunk. The originals have rust and will need to be replaced.  The carpet will need to be replaced also.  The windshield needs a new gasket and to be installed.   nAll the chrome is perfect and the trim is complete.  One of the window handles is missing, readily available.  I have sanded to bare metal, and primed with self-etching sandable primer gray.Winning bidder will need to remove the loosely installed trim/chrome and wet sand the primer, prime again, sand again, and final paint with white.  The engine runs great and the manual transmission shifts like new. I would trust driving this car anywhere, anytime.  The removable hard top is in excellent condition and all the handles/latches work great.  The trunk lid seal is great and needs to be installed after painting.  All the wheel covers are included and simply need paint.   I painted one of them and it turned out great.  All the chrome is present and mostly installed.  Don't let this fine auto get away.  Bid as much as you can afford.  This car is rare and a great find.  A lot of fun to drive and very dependable.  Seats are comfortable leather and nice shape.  Some cracking and splitting of the leather seats.  Radio works......The car has never been inn an accident.  There was some rust on the top of the rear fenders directly above the wheels/tires. It has been repaired.  The hood is the original with the correct number stamp."

Once again, I purchased the car, had bodywork done and had it painted silver.  Most of the chrome is reattached.  I stopped there.  It has not been restored any further.  The seats, carpet, headliner, etc need to be replaced.  It ran when I purchased it, but it has been sitting since.  Being sold as is.
