Description
Looking like a car James Bond would drive with its long hood and short deck proportions, this Aston Martin Virage is rare British survivor. Made in July 1991 in Aston Martin's Newport Pangell, Buckinghamshire, England, this car is one of the 411 Virages ever built and one of 93 exported to the United States. It comes with a clean AutoCheck report with mileage showing 28,645 in 03/2015. This handsome stead had original sticker price of $265,000.00 when new.
Dressed in black, the car's paint and trim are in very good order overall, the hand-built, all-aluminum bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is very tidy and the body-colored bumpers are in very good order. The cargo area is tidy and has a mini-spare tire.
This example has undergone a professional, sympathetic restoration by the previous AZ owner. He had tehe car stripped and professionally repainted, motor gone through with fuel injection system rebuilt, he reportedly spent over $9,000 in just motor work, but was doe by his personal mechanic although he did not provide receipts. Additional work was an all new leather interior and new carpets he wanted the car like new.
It rolls on Kumho Solus radials, size 235/65R16 at every corner. Each tire is mounted factory five-spoke alloy wheels. The tires and wheels are all in very good order.
Under the forward-hinged hood is a 5.3L DOHC, 32-valve V-8 engine with Weber-Marelli fuel injection and dual exhausts. Backing up this motor is ZF's Friedrichshafen five-speed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power seats and power windows. Note: While the car is being sold on an actual mileage title, the electronic odometer is no longer functional. We tried to have it repaired and replaced the battery but this is a known problem with these cars as the led read out was first being used. car will be sold TMU. That said, I spoke with the previous owner who said he drove the car 300-500 miles a year adding approx. 4,000 miles at best during his 8 year ownership.
Inside, the gray leather seats with black piping are in overall very good order, front and rear. The black carpet is in similar condition, as is the neutral headliner. A two-spoke black steering wheel faces the driver. Meanwhile the dashboard, inner door liners and center console are all swathed in burled wood accents for warmth. The center console and shift plus an aftermarket AM/FM stereo with CD player complete the interior.
When compared to the preceding V8, the Virage's design was fresh and more modern. The Virage was more similar in design language to the Lagonda than the V8 it replaced. Indeed, the chassis was an evolution of the Lagonda's, with a de Dion tube rear suspension, located by triangulated radius rods and a Watts linkage, and a double wishbone unit at the front.
The Virage was a large, heavy car in spite of its all-aluminum body, but the 32-valve 5.3L V-8 engine elevated the car's performance to near sports car levels. "Acceleration just never seems to run out," claimed Sports Car International during a first test. They also praised the "eager and quicker revving" nature of the engine with its Callaway-designed heads and Weber-Marelli fuel injection. "Nothing sounds quite like an Aston V8," they concluded.
Celebrity owners included Rowan Atkinson, Lennox Lewis and Chris Eubank.
