British Leyland Morris Minor Workshop Manual

After 17 years, time for Morris to move on

Morris has been sitting for last 5 years so it can be aProject to get back on the road, a Donor for many parts, or a Display platform foryour business (over the years have been approached by folks running a resaleshop, scooter and motorcycle shops, bicycle shop, and a gardening center whowanted to display their wares beside and in the bed of Morris). The previousowner had a design business and also apparently involved with a nutritionsupplement company so it must have been nice to have Morris pull up to make adelivery.

Under my ownership trans replaced with a Spridget (originalgoes with the sale), brakes replaced, seat supports blasted and powder coated, seat stuffing and coverings replaced. Fuel tank is in a box under the bed (original tank goes with sale) andwas going to reverse this so bought a new exhaust system to make everythingoriginal but did not get around to it.

Also bought a chrome front bumper but did not get around toswapping out.

Previous owner switched out the low compression engine for ahigh one per ESM Morris Minor Ltd review of engine plate number; there areseveral engine parts, carb, and so on from previous owner including an enginelift clamp to bolt on if you want to replace it or switch to a MG or Datsunengine.

Roof – hole in roof drilled by previous owner for a flashingred light.  Light removed.

Front and rear window seals leak – Morris has been caught inthe rain twice which is how the water leaks were discovered.

Windshield wipers – arm is missing from one post.  In the spare parts boxes aresome arms but do not recall if they are a match to this Morris

Doors/frame alignment/floor boards – doors close with a slamand open with a tug but something is out of alignment which could be becausefloor boards are rusted out in places.

Coolant leak - appears to be from thermostat cover, buthoses should be replaced due to age and just sitting last 5 years

Electric fuel pump added to assist fuel flow from marine gastank in wooden box under truck bed.  Fuelpump activates with turn of ignition key before pulling starter knob. Have the original gas tank if youwant to get it boiled out, coated, and reattached.

Non standard exhaust – due to placement of wood box to hold marinegas tank the exhaust pipe was cut and rerouted. Have complete muffler and exhaust pipe to switch back.

Electrical issue with turn signal activation – replacedflasher but no signals.  Not sure ifthere is a grounding issue or if the Direction Indicator Relay Switch box isbad.  Note the trafficator imprints areon the cab so if parts could be found this would be a great addition.

Engine not original to a 1958 pickup.  The VIN plate is stamped OFE 4 / 72829.  The engine has a metal tag stamped 9M-U-H179955 that ESM Morris Minor Ltd says is post 1958.

Spridget transmission – have the original transmission forrebuild if parts could be found and someone to do the rebuild.  As a result of switching to a Spridgettransmission the shift linkage is a custom build – works fine but not original.

Only one key!

Fuel gauge irrelevant. (use floatation level  indicator on marine tank under the truck bed)

Odometer has never worked.

As noted turn signals do not work.

Red bezel on turn signal stalk frequently falls off.

Glove box door not secure, flops open, could not find a replacement retention clip.

Glove box door opens to empty space under dash with wiringexposed; thought I bought a glove box insert years ago but cannot find it now.

Terms:

AS IS, WHERE IS sale.

Ask questions before bidding.  Reality Check: If you plan to get Morris back on the road understand you are bidding on a 1958 vehicle without power steering, without power brakes, minimal suspension, and an engine that roars trying to reach and maintain a modest 35 mph.  That said, everyone honks and waves and flags you down to ask you questions so plan your quick trip to the store accordingly.

Cashier’s check clears my bank before title or vehicle is  released.

Shipping is your responsibility and will require 1 hour  notice before pickup to get Morris out of garage onto driveway and must be on a day when it is not raining.  Spare parts will be in the bed of truck.  A flatbed with winch will be required as this is a non-running vehicle.
