This Avanti is in remarkable original condition. It would be a good candidate for the survivor class in car shows. The interior including the carpeting is OEM and in fine condition. The AC blows cold and the AM radio works as it should, the tachometer and clock don't work. I'm told that the fix for the tachometer is a simple electrical R&I item. Close inspection of the pictures show the excellent condition of all the stainless and the body. The only thing needed is the front center bumper needs to be looked after, it sits to close to the nose. The carb has just been rebuilt but needs to be fine tuned, new exhaust system, shocks and battery, tires look fine but are old. The hoses and belts look new, all lights work, breaks seem fine. A Studebaker Avanti in its day was the fastest car in the world, setting numerous land speed records on the Bonneville salt flats in the hands of Andy Granatelli. The paint is very faded and worn through in many spots. Some say paint it, others suggest a wrap but most like the look it has with 'patina'. The saying "IT'S ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE" has been the guiding light for this car so far. Included with the car comes the four previous owners names, a collection of documents starting with the vehicle's inspection check off inspection forms from the factory in 01/22/63 - 4 - pages, original bill of sail from Studebaker to the Chicago dealer 'Studebaker On Western Inc.' 02/04/63 for $3,829.66, build sheet showing options, paint code etc., original owners manual, shop manual, parts manuals, restoration guide and a current parts manual. A rare portfolio of numbered lithographs of some of Raymond Loewy's outstanding designs, including the Avanti. There were only 1000 of these commissioned by Raymond Loewy in 1975 and this is # 939/1000, all signed by Loewy. A letter on his personal stationary explains about the prints the artist etc., even the paper used to hold the prints has a story behind it.
