I special-ordered this Charger in seldom seen GY9 Dark Gold Metallic with E6Y3 vinyl bucket seats from Hanover Motors Inc in Hackettstown, NJ on October 5, 1971 and took delivery on November 20, 1971. According to the "A28" code on the fender tag and broadcast sheet, this Charger had a scheduled production date of October 28, 1971 at the Lynch Road, Michigan assembly plant. I have all supporting documentation including sales paperwork, build sheet, MSRP window sticker, and original NJ registration/tag, etc.
As seen in the photos, this vehicle competed in numerous NHRA stock and bracket class races since new until 2008 and to date is still tagged, insured, and occasionally street-driven to maintain all systems. Vehicle body retains its factory stock appearance including the original interior components and exterior paint from the doors back. The vehicle's engine still retains it's factory block however the original cylinder heads were replaced with "X" heads during a complete engine rebuild in the 1980's along with replacing the stock camshaft with a Sig Erickson high performance camshaft. The original transmission has been replaced with a Turbo-Action street-strip transmission with manual/reverse pattern valve body and the converter was replaced with a Turbo-Action street-strip 10" converter. The factory 3.23 posi-traction rear gear set has been replaced with a 3.91 gear set and a New-In-The-Box 8-3/4" complete third member assembly with 3.91 posi-gear will be included with the car. The factory stock exhaust manifolds were replaced with Hooker tubular headers however the original stock manifolds have been saved and will go with the car. The fuel and electrical systems are still factory original including the intake manifold and very rare 4-barrel Thermo-quad carburetor along with the electronic distributor.
At present, the vehicle is equipped with 18" steel wheels and tires from a late-model Police Dodge Charger however I will also include the Keystone Klassic wheels/tires and the 15" Weld wheels/tires shown in the photos.
