1941 Chevrolet Special Deluxe Coupe. The owner has been working on Chevrolet cars since he began working at Capitol Chevrolet in Austin, Texas, after graduating high school in the 1950s. He bought this car as a very solid original and has since made lots of updates. He has a folder full of photos and receipts for everything that he has done to the car over the past 13-14 years, totaling over $20k not counting the purchase price of the car. It has the original speedometer showing around 90,000 miles and that is believed to be original mileage but not verified. The last 5000 or so of those miles he personally put on it after all of the modifications were done, so it is still a very fresh car and ready to cruise. All other gauges are new, the original radio and clock still work. Jim was known for repairing vintage automobile clocks and he has done them for all his buddies through the years. It has an older black paint job that is showing some age but still very presentable. The trim is all very nice and the chrome is good but showing its age. All weatherstrip, glass channel and rubber body bumpers have been replaced. The suspension was updated with Chassis Engineering components. The CE bolt-in front crossmember sports Mustang II/Pinto components with all new bushings and ball joints. It has rack & pinion steering, 2" lowering coil springs, and power disc brakes with new rotors that have the Chevrolet bolt pattern to match the rearend. The CE center crossmember supports a rebuilt 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission. The 10 bolt GM rearend is supported by multi-leaf parallel springs attached with CE brackets. The owner acquired a very low mileage original 1962 235 Chevrolet 6 cylinder engine and meticulously cleaned and refurbished it to prepare it for the road. The engine was in excellent condition and he was able to replace all the bearings and rings using standard parts, no boring nor crankshaft machining was necessary as it was all within specs. He disassembled the original lifters, cleaned and reassembled them, just like he was taught to do at Capitol in the 1950s. No doubt they are better than what is available today! He also had new cam bearings installed and the cylinder head was rebuilt with new bronze guide liners, new valves and springs, and machined for modern seals with hardened exhaust seats installed for use with unleaded gas. He also installed an Offenhauser water-heated dual intake manifold with two Weber style carburetors and aftermarket Jet Hot-coated William's exhaust headers with a custom dual exhaust system utilizing dual Smittie's mufflers. No modern street rod in Texas is complete until it is air conditioned and so Jim installed a Vintage Air Gen IV Magnum a/c system. The interior is very nice with new upholstery on original seats and all new trim panel upholstery. The car has been converted to 12 volts and was completely rewired using a Mr. Roadster 20 circuit wiring harness, very neatly done, like all of Jim's work. The car has also been updated with electric wipers, HEI ignition and a Delco one wire alternator. Fender skirts are steel and came with the car when he bought it. Steering column is a later model GM tilt column. Jim built this car for himself and to drive, sparing no efforts to get what he wanted. This is a great car ready to provide miles and years of fun for someone while providing the opportunity for upgrades and refurbishment to suit the new owner.
