This 1970 Karmann Ghia Coupe comes with a remarkable backstory, meticulously documented through a collection of service and ownership records. Originally purchased new in Fortuna, California, by George Fredson, the car's maintenance was diligently recorded in its VW maintenance booklet. After George, it was sold to Thomas Senko, an Air Force Physician, who, along with his wife Patricia, cherished the car in California until 1990. Following a transfer to Illinois, they took the Ghia with them. They had work stint in Napoli Italy and they had the car shipped with them to enjoy abroad! While there they had the car professionally repainted at a shop in Napoli. Returning to Chicago a few years later, the car remained garaged and well-maintained, largely retaining its originality. Now, we're excited to offer this cherished vehicle to its next discerning owners.

Exterior:

The exterior of this car presents beautifully, with minimal blemishes and excellent trim and hardware. It retains its straight lines without any signs of concerning repairs. The Italian repaint enhances its appearance, giving it a beautiful shine. Some light checking in the paint on the nose adds character and reflects its history well. The original glass is in great condition, and all trim pieces are intact and well-maintained. There is a small door ding on the driver's side, which could easily be remedied with paintless dent repair (PDR). Overall, the exterior of this Ghia Coupe is truly fantastic.

Interior:

The interior of this car is everything you could hope for. It remains largely original and fully intact, showcasing its authenticity. The dash pad has been recently replaced, and the rear window panel has also been refreshed. While the original radio powers up, it currently does not produce sound. All original gauges and switches are in excellent condition, and the seats and vinyl upholstery appear fantastic and retain their original charm. Despite their age, the original carpets still look well-maintained. The headliner is taut and well-kept. Overall, the interior is in fantastic shape throughout.
Moving to the trunk area, it is clean and features a new carpet mat. The spare tire basin is dry, and the original spare tire and tool kit are included, completing the package nicely.

Engine and Underside:

This car is exceptionally solid throughout, reflecting its origins in California and its recent garage-kept status. The pinch welds are dry and appear original, indicating the car's structural integrity. The suspension is fully intact and appears to be in good working condition.
Under the hood, the engine bay displays abundant originality with OEM parts throughout. The engine runs beautifully, maintaining a smooth idle. A new battery was installed in 2024. The engine appears well-sealed, and there have been no signs of fluid leaks during our ownership.

On The Road:

Driving this car is just as enjoyable as it appears. It performs exceptionally well on the road—the newer clutch engages smoothly, providing a seamless transition. Acceleration is brisk and responsive, with no hesitation, and shifting feels precise and enjoyable. It maintains a straight track under power and handles heavy braking with confidence. This car inspires confidence and can be enjoyed as a reliable daily driver.

In conclusion, this 1970 Karmann Ghia Coupe embodies both charm and reliability, steeped in a rich history of meticulous ownership and careful maintenance. From its origins in California to its adventures abroad in Italy, this car has been lovingly preserved and thoughtfully enjoyed. With a beautifully maintained exterior showcasing its Italian repaint and minimal blemishes, to an interior that retains its originality and comfort, every detail speaks to its quality. Under the hood, its engine bay reveals a commitment to OEM parts and smooth performance, complemented by a solid suspension and confident driving dynamics. Whether cruising the streets or navigating highways, this Ghia offers a driving experience that's as exhilarating as it is reliable—an iconic classic ready to delight its next fortunate owner.
