There is a great story behind this special, one-of-a-kind, unique Toyota FJ Cruiser. The original owner was, Army Staff Sergeant Bob (Bob was a friend of mine and I bought it from his estate) who served in Communications Intelligence/Cryptography during the Korean War. It was during the Korean War, that Sergeant Bob was introduced to military Jeeps which started a life-long love of 4WD SUVS. Over the years, he had several 4wd SUVS years before they were popular and before they were status symbols.
Sergeant Bob was driving a 1989 K5 Chevy Blazer that he had ordered new and was in the 18th year of owning when he saw the “NEW” Toyota FJ Cruisers and they caught his eye. He fell in love with the FJ’s. The proportions, the stance, the retro look, the overall design of the vehicle. He looked and looked over sales brochures until he knew exactly what he wanted. So in June 2007, at the age of 70, he special- ordered a new White over Sandstorm (light tan), 2008 FJ Cruiser from the largest Toyota dealership in Texas. Being a special order, he ran into delay after delay. Finally, after 4 months of excuses and delays, he was frustrated and started looking elsewhere for a new FJ Cruiser. On October 18, 2007, he found the almost identical FJ Cruiser to the one he had special ordered, closer to home in Oklahoma City. He took delivery of this new 2008 FJ Cruiser with $9470 of options (CQ convenience package, Off road package, leather interior, extra-mile package C, brush guard and auxiliary lights--See original window sticker.) He was so excited to have found this vehicle. In anticipation of the arrival of the first FJ he had ordered, he had built an additional detached 2-car garage especially for his new FJ. He lived on a dirt road,5 miles out in the countryside and lovingly drove, babied, and cared for his FJ Cruiser for 17 years until he passed away at the age of 87. This was the last car he would ever own.
The history of this vehicle is thoroughly documented in the CARFAX report. I removed and preserved the original wheels and tires fully intact (if you wanted to display the vehicle at car shows), did not dismount them but replaced with newer style black wheels and BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires. (It comes with both sets of wheels/tires). You can fly into Oklahoma City and drive this vehicle home to anywhere in the USA. Look at the underside of this vehicle. It is 99% as new…as it left the factory. No undercoating or black spray paint detailing to cover rust. Look at the factory inspection paint marks on the springs and differential. This is an un-touched vehicle. Every vehicle I ever bought from a Northern Rust-Belt State had rust on it and/or eventually started rusting. Unlike vehicles from rust-belt states, THERE IS NO RUST on the underside of this Southern Oklahoma vehicle. I have chosen NOT to do a detail on the vehicle, leaving 2 minor door dings on the drivers side, one on the passenger side, some very minor rock chips and some scratches on the roof rack. This is the original vehicle as Sergeant Bob regularly drove it with these minor imperfections. If you want to, these items are easily, inexpensively fixed. This is a show quality FJ Cruiser. About as original as you can ever see or run across. Keep it original as-is and take to shows or modify it as you always wanted. If you always wanted an FJ Cruiser in near pristine, showroom condition, this is about as close as your going to find. This caliber of vehicle does not come along very often.
