Here is a very nice 1947 Ford Sedan. It looks sharp, runs and drives great, and is super dependable. I bought this from a retired couple, they used it to cruise to local car shows, take their grandkids to get a ice cream cone, drive in parades, and all that fun stuff. The guy restored this car in his extra time, you could say it was his hobby. Do a little here and there with no time deadline in mind. I bought it just how you see it, I haven't done a thing. The only reason the guy decided to sell the car is because he found a deal on a 1940 Ford Sedan and decided he'd rather have that.  I'll do a walk around and tell you what I see.

The body looks pretty darn straight. I don't see any bondo bubbles, I don't see any bondo cracks, and I don't see any rust. The front of the car has some rock chips (it happens if you drive them), doors, hoods, trunk lids, always get little knicks here and there from bumping stuff, so its not perfect, but very good looking.  The guy had a friend whom worked at a body shop paint it for him, so its a professional paint job, however the friend only painted it, the guy was doing all the wet sanding and buffing himself. Every paint job has some dust and some orange peel, its not possible to not get any.  It was not a priority to wetsand it, he did it as he had the time, so on rainy weekends when he had really nothing else going on he would wetsand a fender, maybe a month would go by and he'd do the hood, etc. He was just finishing the decklid area when he bought the 1940. Then work on the 1947 stopped and he worked on the 1940 instead.  Almost the entire car was wet sanded when I bought it, there are some hard to get to places that have orange peel, but overall it looks pretty darn good, except for 3 areas.  Remember I said he was just working on wetsanding the trunk when he bought the 1940, well the trunk looks pretty good, but it does have some orange peel that wasn't sanded all the way out.  The other two areas are, from the trim down, on the door and on the rear quarter ahead of the fender.  There was no wetsanding done at all in these areas on either side. Yes it shines and doesn't look bad, but if your after a no orange peel finish you will want to wetsand it.  There is also a run on the drivers side where the door meets the quarter panel, so if your wetsanding I'd get rid of that as well. The other thing which is minor, is the guy must have been at a car show and it started to rain, then it stopped raining and it got hot out, well unless your caring a rags and wipe your car off right away what happens ?  Rain spots.  They aren't hard to get out, it just takes some waxing. 

The chrome and stainless look pretty good. The trim rings on the wheels have some dings (you pound them on with a hammer, it happens).  The trim on the rockers also have some dings (its a perfect height for getting bumped with shoes, bicycles, etc). The ford logo/emblem on the trunk lid doesn't sit tight against the body, it might just need to be tightened up, maybe you need new clips, but thats a pretty easy fix.  Everything else looks pretty darn good. I would say the bumpers are new or rechromes. Most of the other stainless looks very nice, you might find something here or there, but it looks good. The chrome/stainless also has those stubborn water spots, but again its just wax and elbow grease and they come out.

The guy wanted a super dependable car that could be driven to car shows, not trailered, so everything he could possibly do to make it super dependable was done.  The goal wasn't to burn rubber or have a street racer, so no it doesn't have dual carbs, alum heads, a isky cam, etc. The engine is basically stock. Runs and drives like a clock. The transmission is also stock, it shifts super nice, it doesn't groan and complain going into gears ( Flathead transmissions were engineered with the idea that you wouldn't put it into first unless you were stopped, so yes if your doing 10 mph and try to down shift into first (bad idea) it will not work, so do not try it). It also has the stock rearend.  The drivetrain is quiet, I haven't noticed any bearing noises, any chattering, or anything strange. The Steering is stock, it steers so easily you'd think it has power steering. I won't say it doesn't have any play in the steering because all old cars do, but its tight. Doesn't wander, you don't turn the steering wheel a entire turn before the wheels move, or anything bad like that.  The brakes are stock, they work good. Overall its just a well setup car that is super dependable.  You could fly in and drive home. I was just at a car show with it and the temperature was in the upper 80's.  I didn't have any issues with overheating and I got around 15 mpg driving 60 mph and was roughly running 1/4 throttle. I believe this has 3.73 gears, I was told with 3.25 gears it would do 65 to 70 mph at that same 1/4 throttle, so if you wanted to cruise on the freeway faster its just a matter of doing a gear swap. Also, I haven't noticed any drips under it, but all old cars drip, so assume it has them.

The interior is very nice and clean. You can order the exactly correct door panels, seat covers, carpet, headliner, etc. It does not have that, but what is in it looks like it could be stock and looks very nice. I didn't notice any marks or flaws in the door  panels. Just because feet bump them, hands grab for window cranks and door handles,  marks in door panels happen, but again I didn't notice any.  The seats are stock and are very comfortable, you don't feel seat springs, they don't feel lumpy, or anything like that. Both front and rear seats however have ripples in the seat bases. If you take the seat cover loose and pull the covers tighter that should get rid of the ripples. It isn't hard, its something you can do yourself quite easily, I just haven't messed with it. On the drivers side front seat back, there is one seam which is sewed slightly crooked, but yeah thats getting really picky.  The rear seat base on the pass side has a flaw, its about a one inch square area where the cover shows wear ?  If I had to guess a grand kid was riding back there and dropped gum or a sucker on the seat and it dried. Then when they tried to pull the sucker/gum off it removed some of the material with it. If your own grandkids will right back there, I'd leave it, that same thing could happen to you, but if it really bothered you it shouldn't be hard to repair.  The carpet looks nice, just because it isn't black, assume it may have a mark here are there, but I didn't notice anything.  The Headliner looks nice and the visors look nice, however the visors  have slight discoloring on the edges.  Possibly touching them with lotion/sun screen on your fingers, its pretty minor and  you don't notice it unless your looking for it.  The Glass looks good, the drivers side windshield has a chip that was repaired, it is right above the rubber moulding on the very bottom, honestly the wiper covers it up, so you don't notice it, but its there.  Weather stripping appears to be good, I didn't notice any damage to it. The alum sill plates where you open the doors are originals, they don't look bad, but they don't shine like new. There are little handles to help you get out of the rear seat, those don't look awful but they do show wear.  The wind lace just because its constantly getting bumped everytime you get in or out of the car, shows some minor wear, but doesn't look bad. The kick panels by your feet have some minor wear, but again your feet constantly bump them. Sometimes when your driving with the cowl vent open they do tend to come loose but all you have to do it push them back in place, not a big deal, but it happens.  The dash is stock, speedo works and is pretty accurate, gas gauge works, but a 1/4 is empty, so its not super accurate. Temperature guage works, amp guage works, oil pressure gauge works, but it needs a new sending unit. I've never tried the radio or the heater.  I don't know if they work or not. Last time I drove it the lights all worked, turn signals all worked, and brake lights all worked, granted its possible a bulb could burn out between now and then, but they did work. For some reason every now and then the dash lights won't come on, maybe needs a switch, but 9 times out of 10 they work fine.  Does the interior have its flaws, sure, but its pretty darn nice.

The trunk has carpet on the floor and those cardboard kick panels on the walls. Its nice and clean and presents well, however the trunk does show some marks, it probably hauled home numerous swap meet finds, but it doesn't look bad.  Pretty easy to change the kick panels and carpet if it really bothered you. 

I have been completely honest and upfront about everything I know about the car, but this car is almost 90 years old. Classis cars need upkeep. How many 90 year old people haven't had a hip replacement, surgery for this, or that. Probably none. Well a car is the same, as you own it, you will have to do upkeep. Radiators need to be flushed, engines develop leaks, brake hoses get cracks, etc. So please assume that this will/may need upkeep.

I really hate to sell the car, but I'm loosing storage, so I don't have a choice.
