The Basic Scoop/Specs:
V8-Auto-PS-PB-Straight Body- Good paint-
Runs Great-Full Interior-Drive anywhere.
The long drawn out detailed story:::
I listed this hot rod in this category because it's half (1/2) Chevy and
no other category fits.. You can drive this hot rod now without spending
years to get something else on the road..
One of a Kind, very Rare, Hot Rod.. Straight Body.. No rust..
Garage kept for years.. Chevy hybrid.. Mounted on 1980 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup
truck chassis and suspension.. Crate 350 Chevy small block engine.
Low miles-approximately 7000.. Mild Cam.. HEI distributor..
POWERMASTER Starter Motor.. 900CA Battery Super Start Premium..
TH400 3-spd Automatic Transmission w/ Column shifter and cooler..
Factory POWER STEERING.. POWER Front Disc Brakes with Large 12.5"
Rotors and new dual master cylinder..
14 Bolt Full Float GM rear axle w/ Large 10.5 ring
gear, 30-spline pinion and 1-1/2 inch axleshafts..
This rearend is desired among the off-road crowd for
it's strength and gear changing capability..
Judging by the Tach showing approx. 2300rpm at highway speed,
the rear gear ratio appears to be the factory 3:21 or 3:42..
IFS - Independent Front Suspension = A-arms/Coil Springs/shocks
up front.. Rancho 9000 adjustable rear shocks.. Have these set
on 4 for around town.. They go to 9..
The Hydraulic parking brake is operated from the floor in front
of the driver's seat.. You push on the brakes and throw the
aluminum lever.. These are used on dune buggies.. This one was
made in Germany and can hold 7500psi and holds the car on a hill..
RED-HEAD Power Steering Gear Box.. 22 Gallon Fuel Cell w/ gauge..
Edelbrock 1405 600cfm Carb w/ aluminum Performer Intake..
Phenolic plastic 1 inch heat spacer under the carb..
Chrome Headers into 2-1/2" Pipes w/ 2-1/2" crossover pipe..
Cherry Bomb glasspacks into 3-1/2" Side exhaust.. It keeps
sounding better the more it's driven..
I bought this ride from Arizona eight years ago..
We took this to California car shows every
weekend for 7 years.. I had it transported to South
Carolina over a year ago, where it's attended shows..
Totally dependable.. Aluminum Radiator has Flex fan, Electric fan,
overflow bottle and Stant 16lb flip top cap..
Stays at cool 180 degrees.. Classic Hot Rod Steering Wheel.
Tall Edelbrock 360 Air Cleaner.. New plugs and wires..
Royal Purple Oil and Filter recently..
Paint is Good.. There are imperfections/chips because it's
a Driver.. Original Speedo works.. TACH, Gas, Water Temp,
Volt Gauges.. Car Locks up with Original key.. Trunk locks..
All glass is good except for 2nd door window crack, but
it's tinted so don't see it.. Driver's front wind wing is
Lexan.. Wipers work.. Halogen Headlights, Tail, brake, Turn
Signals, 3rd brake light, license plate light, instrument
and Horn all work..
It has bumper mount LED backup lights that I never
hooked up.. '40 Ford Amber fog lights.. Vintage drag stickers
adorn the rear windows.. Windows regulators crank up and down,
but I don't use the rear to save decals.. Has a great hotroddy
sound.. Sounds like a NASCAR on the freeway.. Yes, it handles
the freeway just fine.. All the race track markings and flames
are decal, not paint.. The rear windows are all limo tint..
Tires Front: 195/75/16 10ply run them at 44psi..
Tires Rear : 285/70/15 30" diameter White letter run at 34psi..
It's been through tire and rim changes.. The front rims are
VINTIQUE chrome 16"x 6" that I had custom made.. EIGHT "8" Lug
all the way around.. Rear rims are Bart Super Trucker Black Wheels
15"x10".. Yes, the 15" SUMMIT Racing wheels fit the rear drums..
Long Chrome Lug Nuts..
Headlights have the LED Blue Halo ring
in park setting.. Custom accelerator and brake pedals..
Stereo is mounted inside the console.. Speakers are mounted
in the sides of the console, kick panels, and rear package tray..
Stereo sounds good but I just listen to the engine..
Chrome 100 Amp Alternator.. Loud Air Horn mounted
on the firewall.. Chrome valve covers and breather.. Summit
Racing firewall Battery mount.. The battery was mounted in the
trunk, but too much voltage drop even with a 1G cable..
The actual original stainless wiper blades are in the trunk
along with the drivers side Visor.. It was in my eyesight line
at 6'4".. FULL INTERIOR = Updated upholstery on both bench
seats, doors, carpet and headliner.. No rips or tears..
Retractable Seat Belts front and back seats..
Rear belts have shoulder strap..
This car is 17 feet long bumper to bumper, 7 feet wide rear
tire sidewall to sidewall, and 6'1" tall at the roof center..
This car has been for cruises up Pacific Coast Highway and
Van Nuys Blvd with two people up front and four girls in the
back seat.. The back seat can fit three big guys.. Three can
fit up front if one can straddle the console..
There's a Battery Cut-Off switch mounted inside the console
which cuts all the electricity off..
Runs fine on regular pump 87 grade without pinging..
The original rare Conquistador hood ornament is in great
shape.. My wife glued rhinestone crystals on the eyes..
More photographers at car shows have taken pics of the
hood ornament than the car.. Radius rear wheel wells with
bolt on fender flares.. All doors open and shut properly..
Window regulators work.. Trunk stays up by itself and locks
shut.. Hood has a double locking mechanism and also stays
up when open.. The manual choke cable is located to the right
of the steering column and is only needed when the car hasn't
been started for awhile..
Headlight Lo-Hi beams are controlled by the old school foot
switch with an indicator on the dash.. After market ceiling
courtesy light.. I mounted a grab bar on the dash so my wife
could pull herself up into the seat.. Clean South Carolina
Title and current registration.. Insured at Hagerty
with annual $436 premium.. This is a fun driver hot rod.. It
feels like you're in a parade when you take it out.. It always
gets smiles and approving thumbs up everywhere.. Countless
people have taken pics of the DeSoto over the years, many
just on the street.. This isn't fast compared to what's out
there.. It is an attention getter that you can have fun with
now.. It's Turn-Key, meaning you don't have to do any work on
it.. I haven't taken the DeSoto to the drag strip to see what
it can do, because I didn't want to blow it up.. The original
radio is still in the dash.. I changed the fuse but it didn't
come to life.. I don't know if it could work, but left it in
because it's cool.. Had the front end wheel alignment done on
a computerized rack.. There's a Factory Scoop Air Vent with
hand control under dash.. I just leave that open.. It has a
steel screen to keep bugs out.. The DeSoto has a three mirror
set-up.. Passenger side mirror is 180 degree.. The rearview
mirror is Wide angle, spanning land to lane.. The turn signals
are controlled by the two RED switches to the left of the steering
column along with the horn button..
I've listed everything I can think of.. I can't imagine any
questions after that novel, but I'll answer them.. This is the
first time trying to sell the DeSoto.. If it doesn't sell,
then I'll just keep having fun with it.. See the videos of
the DeSoto running and car shows if this link is allowed
