The Z/28 pictured above was sold new at Jack Phelan Chevrolet in the fall of 1978.

 

It was said to have been a demo & driven by the lead salesman for approximately two months.

 

Sometime shortly thereafter the car was purchased by a local policeman.

 

He would keep the Camaro in his possession into the late eighties.

 

 

Next the vintage Bow Tie would be acquired by Bill Kay Corvettes & Classics in Downers Grove IL.

 

  

There it would remain as a regional product for over twelve years.

 

 

Not long after “the exact whereabouts & its history was lost in the shuffle”.  

 

 

This particular Z would not resurface until 2019.

At this point it was gathered by a prominent member of YESTERDAY’S CLASSIC CAMARO CLUB in (Watsonville, CA).

 

 

After adding it to his collection he transported it to Ballwin, Mo.

 

There the vehicle was slated for restoration.

 

His team began by stripping off the original lacquer paint (only one repaint since new).

 

This F body still has all of its original body panels in place.

 

Its uniformity & proper fitment is noteworthy.

 

The paint material was extensively researched and carefully crafted.

 

An amazing blend of 1978 (70447743AW) Chevrolet red & RM BASE 9387 was applied.

 

 

“There was also a hint of 2019 Corvette torch red (GKZ DITZLER PPG) incorporated”.

 

 

THE OUTCOME & FINAL PRODUCT IS SIMPLY BREATHTAKING!

 

It was given honors of second place in the “Spirit of the Midwest” car cruise & show (in 2021).  

 

 

Nevertheless the car truly turns heads each & every time it leaves the garage!

 

Constant cell phones flashing & people giving thumbs up!

 

Being a true Camaro enthusiast made it difficult for him to go against the grain.

 

However, a decision was made to kill some of the GM sanctioned Z/28 decals (which are included).

 

From his perspective it took away from the purity & grace.

 

Most hobbyist love the cleaner appearance.

 

The hood scoop is encompassed with Chevys splendid tear drop graphic element.

 

 

Both upper & lower grilles are original to the car (flawless).

 

Each taillight is crystal clear & in like new condition.        

 

 

All of the surrounding glass is damage free.

 

 

Both iconic fender gill fins look better than they did day one!  

 

The original (3983045) Camaro five spoke Rally wheels are in excellent condition.

 

Four flawless X 7 NTR-70Z trim rings encapsulate each rim.

 

At every corner wide width raised white letter tires huge the metal.

 

The exterior shines wonderfully at any given time of day!

To make matters even better this Z left the factory with a four speed manual transmission!

 

All the boxes checked!

 

 

Upon opening the door you'll find the original virgin interior!

 

A collection of beautiful Camel flavored sport buckets & matching rear bench can easily be detected.

 

The upholstery is comprised of high grade vinyl.

 

 

 

Both buckets have been reupholstered with extra lumbar padding for comfort & support.

 

Extra protective covers are kept in place for sanitation.

 

 

The interior quarter trim panels are in magnificent condition!

 

Tucked beneath the wing chairs you'll find the stock ebony colored carpet.

 

Z/28 embossed floor mats shield the floor from debris.

 

The cockpit contains a stylish original center console.

 

From right to left there's a matching set of opulent Chevrolet Camaro door panels.

 

Both are in excellent condition!

 

The arm rest, door cups, window cranks & attaching hardware have all been refurbished.

 

Up front lies an ensemble of factory gauges and perfectly situated dash pad.

 

An original suntan amber quality Z/28 steering wheel!

 

The headliner & package tray are in perfect condition!

 

A factory original stereo is included.

 

All & all the interior compliments the exterior wonderfully “fan favorite”!

 

 

 

Upon opening the lid you’ll find Chevy’s main stay 350 block with four speed manual (2.64:1) Muncie transmission!

 

 

The engine performs wonderfully and without issue!

 

Its 4.00 X 3.48 bore & stroke makes the motor breath freely.

 

 

A 3.42 rear end with locking differential ensures every ride is a thrill!

 

This Z/28 has also received a litany of preventive maintenance items as well.

 

IE:  New & recent, starter, HP Copper plugs, Taylor high energy 135 degree wires, Gates OE (33006S) thermostat, Tuff Stuff Supercool water pump, new belts & hoses, etc.    

 

 

A new Summit Racing 700080 flywheel was installed recently for performance.

 

The original Hurst shifter was also upgraded with a Competition Plus model.

 

 

The car turns over without hesitation & is very reliable!

 

 

Dual exhaust extend from the rear of this Camaro which makes it sing a sweet note once the pedal is mashed!

At any rate the structural integrity of this class must be discussed.

 

 

It has perfect floors & sturdy frame / subframe!

 

 

ROCK SOLID!

 

 

She has a clean bill of health thanks in part to many new suspension components.

 

 

Inside the cargo area awaits a very durable trunk with respectable lid!

 

An original trunk mat is also still laid inside.

 

 

You may find another but you will be hard pressed to find another one like this!

 

The time, care & consideration given to attention of its safe keeping can’t possibly be measured!
