I have owned this car for 2 years, don't have time for the few things left it needs but more importantly just don't plan on using it much and would like my garage back. Clear title in my name and with collector plates for MN buyers only.
This car was brought to MN from Oklahoma about 10 years ago and was a stalled project. The previous owner was a life-long Alfa mechanic and enthusiast and made many trips south to get rust free cars. He transplanted a great engine and trans from one of his (presumably rusty) cars (think it was a 78 or 9) and then parted that one out retaining a lot of extra parts for this one, mostly for interior (though parts are not needed for this car). He then stopped working on it. It has been garaged the whole time and no signs of rodents or any thing like that. It is very rust (with just one very minor exception in the spare tire well) and accident free. The odometer is showing 40k and believed to be accurate based on condition of seats and everything. The original Spica injection was known to leak into the oil diluting it and destroying the engine, is my guess why this car was off the road.
I have completed the Dellorto conversion with Euro manifold and rebuilt carbs with a lot of new parts. Fuel system is new from back to front. Tank was POR coated inside I have done that at least 3 times on other cars. All new hoses, lines, etc, including the filler neck and Filter King filter/regulator. Facet fuel pump from Centerline as well as their electronic distributor, wires, etc. New center section of exhaust and has manifold from a pre-emissions early 70's car. Choke cable installed, starts instantly, idles, and pulls well. Does not appear to smoke or leak at all.
Lights work and car drives. I have driven around the neighborhood many times. Tires are old but look great. I have 5 Turbina alloys to go with.
New battery and seat belts.
Cooling system got new thermostat, radiator, hoses
Clutch hydraulics replaced (clutch feels great). Brake system flushed. Shits through 2nd gear with no problem or noise
About $2500 in parts installed and a lot of little things attended to down to the hoses for the windshield washer (does need pump). All parts from Centerline or Classic Alfa UK and Eurocarb.
Fan works, wipers work, radio powers up but needs an antenna and speakers. The center console needs a hazard switch, one power window switch, an ashtray. It came with an earlier model console so I sourced an 80- console. Top mechanism is great but material has shrunk just enough to keep it from closing all the way, plus plastic window just broke. Tach needs to be connected.
The underside has rustproofing which is dried out in spots and comes off easily. There is nothing but original black metal (presumably weld-through primer used when the car was made) under there. It looks in the pics like there is rust because it is a little splotchy in the pictures, so I have been told, but there is no rust through, soft metal, or anything like that. This car has not been on the road probably since the late 80's. The car was painted at one point, a decent job and holding up well but the rear trunk lid looks like was not finished and has sanding marks. The car was red but was painted an orangey red which I think looks much better and is not so different from the original that when you open doors and hood that it is very noticeable. Extra parts that can be included are a transmission, starter motor, interior and exterior stuff and the original ignition system (all not needed currently) and 5 Turbina wheels in very nice shape.
This car needs final tuning of carbs just to make sure the mixture is right but can't imagine it running much better than it already is. I currently have the fuel pump on a switch for security and better control but it could easily be connected to the original wires. Almost ready for daily driving. Please ask questions. I can hold on to car in my garage until shipping is arranged. Shipping is responsibility of buyer. Car does drive so can be loaded easily. Car is for sale locally but unless some extraordinary offer comes my way I plan to let the auction proceed. Thanks
