This 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser is powered by a stroked 383ci Chevrolet V8 with no smog required. It is paired with a Toyota H55 five-speed manual transmission and a modified dual-range transfer case from an FJ62. The truck has a Spring-Over-Leaf conversion that adds 6 inches to the wheelbase for a very stable ride over stock. The exterior features welded Aqualu front fenders and Iron Pig rear fenders which cover a track widened by two inches. Additional exterior modifications include a Trail Tailor FJ40 double swing-out bumper with tire and jerry can carriers, a tan soft top, aluminum side steps, and LED taillights.
The custom front bumper features an A-bar, recovery shackles, and a Warn 8274 winch with solid-state control pack, synthetic rope, and a wired remote control. Polished aluminum 16? MT Classic wheels are wrapped in 315-profile Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires, including the matching rear-mounted spare. A four-wheel power-assisted disc brake conversion has been carried out, and a line lock fitted.
The cabin features black Corbeau bucket seats with vinyl bolsters, a Tuffy center console, and a flip-down rear seat. A heat and noise-reducing floor mat covers the front and rear of the cabin, while full doors have been used with the soft top.
BTB instrumentation sits behind a four-spoke Grant steering wheel, and includes white-faced gauges for engine and road speed, water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and voltage. The mechanical odometer shows just under 13k miles, with actual chassis mileage not known. The windscreen wiper motor was rebuilt in 2018.
The Chevrolet V8 reportedly started life as a 1980s 350 with four-bolt main bearing caps. A rebuild 13k miles ago is said to have included a displacement increase to 383ci using a 400ci crankshaft and Keith Black pistons as well as installation of Dart cylinder heads, a fuel injection system, a reverse-flow water pump, and a serpentine belt setup. Sanderson block-hugger headers feed a stainless steel exhaust system with catalytic converters (reduces exhaust smell). A Saginaw power steering setup has also been added along with dual batteries and fuel tanks.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a replacement Toyota H55 five-speed manual transmission and an FJ62 transfer case which was reportedly rebuilt within the last 2k miles and features a 38mm idler shaft as well as a parking disc brake. The truck is equipped with Moser front axles and Poly Performance rear axles, with ARB air lockers in both controlled by an onboard compressor. A spring-over-axle conversion using flipped springs increases the wheelbase by six inches over stock.
