We purchased another car it’s time to sell this one after about 9 years of owning it. It’s never left us stranded or had any issues outside of regular maintenance items. We never had any accidents.
Let’s start with what this car has going for it:
- not too much rust for a 2004, spent a good amount of time in Virginia, and I did some rust spray when I bought it, (RP-342 and T-9) the most important part of the frame that causes elements to die from rust seems in good shape, see underbody picture
- just did about $2000 in repairs; both new lower control arms/ball joints, driver side OEM CV axle, alignment, valve adjustment, gaskets and spark plugs.
New rear brake caliper/ rotor, all brakes in good shape
- struts replaced around 250k miles (Monroe)
- newer battery
-it’s had a couple trans fluid changes and shifts smooth no issues, when I did it I used OEM Honda fluid
-overall rides good, no clunks etc (has MOOG greasable sway bar links)
The bad:
It does burn some oil, nothing major but we do add some oil. You might be able to limit this with using some thicker weight oil, engine flush/treatment or something, but we just added some more.
I have also not monitored this much after the valve adjustment. That might have helped with the oil issue.
It has an exhaust leak (see picture). Missing a spring in flange and prob needs a new donut.
I believe due to the exhaust issue: it gets to around 2500 RPM and loses a little power (low rpms runs smooth and normal power). Exhaust leak sound and power kinda match so guessing that’s the issue. the cat converter I think is good as I don’t smell anything and the exhaust is going all the way through the tailpipe. But worst case, it might also need to be replaced (aftermarket walker is around $500) Or if you’re not in a emissions state and not worried about it you could just get rid of it and put a anti foul on it. But your call.
I really feel like if you’re handy, $30 for bolts/springs, and a new donut should make everything better though. If it doesn’t sell I’ll drop it off at a shop when I get time and have them do it.
The AC works but seems like it needs to be recharged..kinda weak and I don’t think it’s ever been charged.
I put a aftermarket front bumper on it due to the OEM one having a dent (previous owner) in it (which also bent the condenser a bit but no leaks) and it got really UV faded.
If I was to keep the car I would buy some monstaliner or raptor liner and coat over all the plastic
The headlights were also a bit UV faded. Used a 3M kit to make them workable with high output bulbs, but if keeping car I would replace these with aftermarket at some point
Tires have some sidewall UV cracking starting and a bit worn, I would prob buy a new set sometime soon depending on where you live.
Has a small rock chip in windshield. Maybe size of a dime some small cracks spread out to, has not spread beyond that.
I’ve tried to be as open and honest as possible. If I think of anything else will update listing. But, I don’t have time to work on it anymore and so I’m selling it AS-IS. Overall with the exhaust fixed and a little more work I feel like it could easily go another 5-10 years or more (Hondas and Toyotas will last forever if you keep up maintenance and doesn’t get rusted out)
