For consignment, a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 coupe that has been fully restored and will come with two books full of receipts to account for the work done. It's a clean machine with great retro appeal for Gen X'ers who may have had something very much like this "back in the day."
Note: Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area
Exterior
Black accents pop against the gleaming Teal paint that covers this car, and that includes the headlight bezels, grille, and the air scoop on the hood which appears to be a slightly modified and now functional version of the infamous Z28 scoop of the period. Forward canted fender vents allow engine heat to escape and share the job of adding cool factor to the car's profile with front spats and a rear wing that angles sharply away from the F-body's short trunk. Color matched urethane bumper covers and the sport mirrors replace chrome elements of yesteryear and create a clean monochromatic appearance. 15-inch Cragar SS wheels with staggered size tires with early 2022 production dates produce a raked and muscular stance. Z28 decals are found on the nose and rear spoiler. Imperfections include chipped paint on panel edges and some bubbling down low.
Interior
Clean and fully intact black plastic and vinyl door cards greet occupants with no window frame, a typical feature of F-bodies. Black velour inserts fill vinyl bucket seats and look very good along with the rear 2+2 seat in the same pattern. A faux rope wrapped steering wheel also looks fresh and leads to the standard dashboard and gauge package with the pertinent info and a clock filling the cylindrical coves. Climate controls are low and left while an AM/FM radio is in the center stack under a dash pad that is like new. An aluminum colored plate is over the shift indicator panel on the center console and the shifter rises from the floor with a thumb actuated center, fronting a storage bin and armrest looking spectacular where wear usually first appears. Low pile black carpet covers the floor nicely and the perforated headliner is in great shape as well. The trunk features glossy paint on the underside of the lid, and black carpet covering the spiffy compartment.
Drivetrain
A very clean 350ci LM1 V8 is under the hood with an Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, and Edelbrock finned valve covers. Headers are present and a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear 10-bolt. Power disc brakes are up front and power drums out back.
Undercarriage
Clean and dry underneath with minimal surface rust, no grease or grime, and perhaps some residual oil near the pinion seal. The dual exhaust runs from the headers and encounters a pair of Flowmaster mufflers before exiting at the rear wheel wells. There is no catalytic converter present. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back.
Drive-Ability
Nothing like 2nd generation F-bodies to bring back the memories. This car cranked right up with a healthy growl and nosed onto the test loop with plenty of power on tap, great tracking, and some legendary handling F-bodies are known for. In fact, during this period, they were better handlers than 0-60 cars, but with some restrictions freed up on this car, it moves better than 1979. That said, a few things were found to be non functional including the horn, the A/C which has been removed, and the heater blower. Everything else that is supposed to function, did. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Here's a clean and nicely sorted Z28 from 1979, just three years past America's bicentennial and in the spirit of freedom, this car has been freed of restrictive elements that would have bogged it down in 1979. Great color, great stance, and a super clean interior. Bring back your youth with this handsome Camaro.
