The 914 was Motor Trend's 'Import Car of the Year' for 1970 and became Porsche's top seller during its model run outselling the Porsche 911 by a wide margin.
Production of the 914 ended in 1976 with the 2.0 L flat-4 engine being continued to be used in the 912E introduced that year as an entry-level model before the 4 cylinder 924 variant was introduced the following model year.
This particular model is a superb and extremely striking example in this original 'Bahia Red' over Black color combination and has obviously always been garaged and has no signs of any accidents or damage.
Reportedly purchased in in 2016 from its original owner as an excellent unmolested survivor with some 13,500 original miles and all original apart from 4 tires and a battery!
Under new ownership the front and rear bumpers with skirts were removed and replaced with pre 1973 units. Also replaced by its new owners were the front and rear Koni Sport struts, Euro tail lights & turn signal lens were installed, Euro front marker lights & wiring kit, replaced header pipes, muffler and heater flaps, installed J pipe & bypass hose, blower for heater, heater hoses, new Bursch muffler exhaust, the original factory A/C compressor, hoses, drier & electrical was removed, the clutch was replaced with new clutch kit, flywheel and assembly and seals. The brakes were rebuilt with all new left and right rear calipers, rear brake pad kit, the alternator was rebuilt, voltage regulator installed, new fuel sending unit, new brake master cylinder, all 4 wheels repainted. Over $16K in recent receipts.
The original factory 'Bahia Red' color paint is in very good condition as is the all original 'Black' interior with a rare perfect dash and beautiful original factory carpets and mats. The car drives exactly like a well maintained and serviced 914 Porsche should and must be driven to be fully appreciated and seen to be believed! The engine is extremely strong with no oil leaks, the transmission is very smooth and precise in shifting and the temperature always remains cool. The car will also be sold with all of it's original dealer books and manuals steering wheel and gear shifter.
You will look long and hard to find a finer and extremely example of this exceptionally clean and increasingly collectible and desirable last year 1974 Porsche 914 1.8L Targa with desirable pre 1973 look and upgrades and a 5 speed manual transmission available anywhere else!
