For consignment, a 1970 Buick Skylark GS tribute, based in a sport coupe and showing a title verified 78,226 actual miles. Too bad Buick didn't think about offering this generation in this color because the aquamarine is an outstanding hue for this car, which received a frame off restoration about 3 years ago.
Exterior
Teal, turquoise, aquamarine, whatever you want to call it, this two stage Aquamist paint is spectacular on the car and helps accentuate the body lines, grille, chrome, and especially the hood scoops. Chrome bezels around headlights and the bumpers themselves are in excellent condition and the GS badges pop with one on the grille and three on the body itself. 455ci would replace the 400 in 1970 and is indicated on the fenders for a bit of authenticity. Turning a mild mannered Skylark into a muscle car is helped by the GS wing and the hood tach, both options in '71 and '72 and standard on the 1970 GSX. 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels look great on the car and we noted no flaws in the metalwork or paint on this recently restored car.
Interior
Black vinyl door cards in horizontal stitched patterns fill the doors just as it did for the tens of thousands of Skylarks produced in 1970. The beautiful split bench seat in front is also black vinyl with textured weave inserted inside smooth surrounding material and topped by a headrest, all flanking a pull down armrest. A rear bench seats three and is in fine condition including the armrests with requisite ashtray for early smokers or adult occupants. They work for candy wrappers too. A 3 spoke steering wheel leads to the gauge pod which houses round gauges in square bezels, fairly common in this time period. Below them, climate control levers indicated by wonderful script writing on woodgrain plates. To the right, an AM radio over some aftermarket gauges mounted under the dash. A B&M shifter is mounted on the floor which is covered with black loop carpet and above it all is a black stitched headliner, a bit loose, but fully intact. The trunk is clean and lined with a cut to fit plaid mat.
Drivetrain
A driver quality but clean engine bay houses a 350ci V8 with a single 4-barrel carburetor backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to the 12 bolt in the rear. Power brakes are onboard and consist of discs in front and drums in the rear.
Undercarriage
Super clean underneath with no surface rust, caked grease, or oil drips, other than some sling noted by the yoke and some residual oil on the pan. The dual exhaust flows to Flowmaster mufflers and then exits under the rear bumper. Wheel components and steering knuckles are very clean. Coil springs make up the suspension in front and a four link with coil springs are out back.
Drive-Ability
No tunes from the inoperable radio but plenty of sweet notes from the engine and exhaust which propels this turquoise tribute onto the test loop with gusto. It's wonderfully clean inside and out and is absolutely a good running showstopper in this color, and everything else functioned. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This writer comes from a Buick family so this one got my attention quickly. Some nice choices were made in this restoration, and I'll go out on a limb and say other people will fall in love with it too. Therefore, don't sleep on it too long or this aquamarine dream will float away.
