This is the classic American convertible...a 1966 Ford Mustang with glistening chrome, GT/Rallye wheels, and a GT headlight package with OEM correct wiring and switch! 140 MPH speedometer showing 15,500 miles (true mileage unknown). It is a beautiful EASY driver with POWER STEERING. Nearly every time I take it out I hear, "This is my dream car!" Mine too, but so is college tuition for my kids, so time to sell!!!!
It appears to be restored about 20 years ago. It's well sorted out, and all the major things have been done to make it a solid "car + coffee" contender! I recently installed the retro AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo with upgraded speakers in the dash, front kick panels, and rear quarter panels, at which time I upgraded the soundproofing in the car, as well as adding an armrest with cup holders, charging and courtesy lights for all passengers. I replaced the rear seat belts with officially licensed versions and added a center set to make certain that a 5th person "riding the hump" was safe as well.
This car shows very very well, with a few chips and dings that could easily be addressed for a perfect look. Speaking of which, I just put on new chrome bumpers, heater core and hoses. All-new window rails, rollers, felt to tighten the window glass and new convertible gaskets to make the car "water tight." I am continuing to drive "Pony" and tinker with her to keep improving on the details until she sells.
Mechanically this car is a little beast !!! I measured the stroke and it appears to have a 302 crank and a modified cam, so coupled with the Edelbrock manifold and 4 barrel this car moves! The 4-speed and sport exhaust makes it even more exciting and turns heads when you want the attention, but can purr down the street so your neighbors don't wake up when you come home late for sunset drives. The side exhausts are discreet, but do give it a "pay attention to this" sort of vibe. The power steering makes it a pleasure for city driving. The convertible top and the brakes are both manual.
It is well sorted for a nearly 60 year old classic, and has a few things to tinker on. The most notable is a slight oil leak. I place an oil capture mat under it, as it is more a nuisance than a concern. I will include a new complete set of gaskets with the sale if it bothers the new owner. It was on my list of things to tinker with, but as I said more of nuisance than a need.
It was originally a factory air-conditioned car, which was removed but will be included with the car, as well as a set of Rallye pack style gauges (clock and 8,000 rpm tach) that I will include as well as other misc. extra parts in the trunk.
Please feel free to ask any questions BEFORE you bid. If you can't complete the sale, please do not bid as I have to let my "baby" go to take care of my real babies' needs! Go ahead and enjoy the summer with a fun classic auto!
