Description

1934 Ford Model 40 V8 2-Door Deluxe Victoria

Listed on behalf of the owner.
Located near PORTLAND, OREGON

The improved Ford V8 for 1934 featured a 221 cubic inch engine with an output of  85 horsepower. At the time, it truly created a sensation and combined with the now-legendary body stylings offered (in 13 different models), it brought luxury to the lower-priced market.  Certainly, one of the most stylish bodies was the 2-door, 4 passenger Victoria, affectionately called by Ford lovers to this day, "The Vicky."  Compared to other bodies that were produced in the hundreds of thousands by Ford in 1934, just over 20,000 Victorias were made over a shortened production schedule. Today, few survive (and many of those that do have been modified or hot-rodded.)

This Victoria beat the odds and starting as a well-preserved example, was treated to an off-the-frame, fully stock restoration to concours level. The all-Henry Ford steel body is laser-straight with exceptional panel fit. Finished in beautiful black with a mirror shine, it is stunning from every angle. Black is an unforgiving color, but in this case it highlights the quality and detail of the restoration, and subsequent care, as the photos here show.

Accented by Vermillion Red pinstripes and wire wheels, wrapped by correct Firestone wide whitewall tires, this car is elegant yet sporty.  All chrome and trim was re-plated and polished, showing beautifully today. Inside, the quality continues to shine with tan wool mohair upholstery in excellent condition throughout, along with woodgrained dashboard and window moldings, exclusive to the "Deluxe" models (along with the dual chromed horns, dual windshield wipers and sun visors.) Restored gauges and working Ford AM radio. Correct tan rubber floor mat up front, and carpet in the rear compartment. Rear window shade. All glass is excellent. Windows operate smoothly. The Victoria sports a "slantback" design with rear-mounted, covered spare tire and wheel atop the unique luggage compartment that opens with the touch of a handle inside, below the rear window. The outside luggage compartment panel tips out, offering storage in either the open or closed position. A design element only found in the "Vickies."

PLEASE SEE PHOTOS JUST TAKEN FOR THIS LISTING SHOWING CURRRENT CONDITION.

Mechanically excellent. The rebuilt original 221 cubic inch V8 engine starts easily, runs smoothly with no smoke or unusual noises. Whisper-quiet at idle. On the road it accelerates quickly with excellent power at all speeds. The 3-speed manual transmisson shifts crisply and the 4-wheel Ford mechanical brakes stop smooth and straight. Light handling. Truly a pleasure to drive.

PLEASE SEE VIDEO OF ENGINE RUNNING AND CAR DRIVING.

This is certainly one of the finest examples of a 1934 Ford Deluxe Victoria available today. For showing or going, it's ready for many more miles and smiles ahead. A realistic reserve has been placed on this car in keeping with its rarity, quality and condition. Please bid accordingly. Could not be restored to this level today for the reserve price.
