2004 JeepWrangler Rubicon
Mileage
· The engine (6 cylinder, 4.0L) was replaced 27,000 miles ago, by a Jeep dealership. It was replaced with a brand new engine. (See pictured documentation)
· The transmission was replaced 10,000 miles ago with a brand new AX15 (five speed manual). The clutch was inspected and found to be in good condition. (See pictured documentation)
· Both axles were professionally rebuilt (new 4.88 gears, new Detroit TrueTrac differentials, and new bearings) 10,000 miles ago. (See pictured documentation)
· The odometer mileage is 188,250.
Frame and Body
· Includes an OEM hard top and a new soft top. The hard top has a foam headliner. Also, the tub of the Jeep is insulated under the carpet.
· Includes full steel doors and half doors.
· Aftermarket front bumper with D shackles.
· Aftermarket rear bumper with spare tire carrier.
· Prior to coming to PA in the fall of 2022, the Jeep spent all of its life in the Midwest and Southwest. Directly prior to coming to PA, it resided in New Mexico for a number of years. There is absolutely no rust of any significance! There is no scaling inside the frame, as is common with these Jeeps. You can unscrew any bolt. In terms of rust, this Jeep is like a time capsule from 2004! The only exception is on one of the half doors (pictured), because they are native to PA.
Upgrades
· 4” Superlift suspension lift + JKS Suspension adjustable rear upper control arms and adjustable rear track bar
· 35” Yokohama Geolandar MT tires on 16” American Racing aluminum wheels
· Adams Driveshaft heavy duty front and rear driveshafts
· As mentioned above, the axles have 4.88 gears and Detroit TrueTrac limited slip differentials
· Front sway bar quick disconnect links
· Novak transfer case cable shift-linkage upgrade
· Trailer hitch and wiring
· The Jeep also has Cruise Control, Air Conditioning, an Engine Block Heater, and the center console subwoofer option (speaker and amp have been removed and need replaced).
· It is winch-ready; the bumper has a winch mounting plate, and the battery has 800 CCA (cold cranking amps), which is more than sufficient to run a 9500 lb. winch.
Performance
· Being a Rubicon, it has the OEM NP241J Rock Trak transfer case (4:1 low range).
· The original locking differentials began to malfunction and have been replaced with Detroit TrueTracs, which are a gear-operated limited slip (no clutches to wear out). While driving off-road, they automatically transfer power to whichever tire has the MOST traction. They are amazing devices! The Jeep has done some mild trail riding, to include the famous Bantam Jeep Festival in Butler, PA and the 4x4 Beach at Outer Banks, NC. It simply does not get stuck! On the road, there is no perceivable difference from a normal open differential. The Jeep drives peppy, smooth, and straight. It drives great in town or on the highway, and it has no issue with traveling at highway speeds.
· PA inspected to December 2024.
Flaws
· The paint has several chips, scratches, and brush touch-ups. The hood has several light dents. Near the gas cap, there is a plug where a CB antenna used to be mounted to the body. The interior panels of the full doors have a couple cracks. The top of the steering wheel has some wear.
· Occasionally, it takes a little extra effort to steer. If you drive with two hands, you likely won’t notice this. If you drive onehanded, and once you get accustomed to this, you can easily anticipate it and apply slight additional pressure to the wheel.
· When starting the Jeep, the key must be turned over for four to five seconds. However, it always starts, every time. In fact, it just completed a 2000 mile road trip, with no reliability issues whatsoever!
· These things should be viewed as nothing more than minor quirks of a 20 year old vehicle. Overall, it drives great! You can dominate on a blue trail, then jump on the interstate and drive 70 mph home. You can use the soft top and half doors in summer and enjoy the open air, then use the hard top and full doors in the winter and be nice and cozy. It’s a great vehicle, and it is all ready - it is built and it is solid! Feel welcome to message me with any questions.
