When the Corvette Nomad concept was shown at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, it largely stole the show. The idea of a sleek, two-door, low-slung, sporty station wagon spoke volumes to the press and public alike, so much so that General Motors and Chevrolet brass agreed the car should be put into production. However, there was a catch. With the all-new 1955 full-size lineup debuting, the collective thought was that it would appeal to a larger market and be more cost effective if the new Nomad were built on that platform rather than the Corvette. To further broaden interest and spread the investment costs, Pontiac would also build a sporty, two-door station wagon called the Safari. The use of steel over fiberglass alone would prove to be an enormous cost-saving measure, and the larger size likely did serve a wider array of customers.
Here is a highly original example of the first-year Chevrolet Nomad, this unique vehicle is finished in the original color Gypsy Red and Shoreline Beige. It is fitted with bumper guards and the red and beige interior features the original waffle pattern seats. Equipped with a 265 CI V-8 4-barrel with a Powerglide automatic transmission. The Nomad is equipped with power windows, power steering, power brakes, dual exhaust and wide whitewall tires. The frame painted in chassis black and underbody in red oxide. The tailgate features the early and rare "knuckle buster" handle.
Although this is a beautiful car, I will make every effort to honestly represent its condition.
The power brake booster will need attention. There are a couple small spots on the paint. Nothing major and still is very presentable. Gas gauge not working.
