This 1970 Datsun 240Z was acquired by the seller’s father in 1972, and it remained in storage from 1990 until 2001, when it received a multi-year refurbishment that was completed in 2007. Following the seller’s acquisition in 2017, the car was displayed by Nissan for the unveiling of the 370Z 50th Anniversary Edition at the New York International Auto Show in 2019. Powered by a 2.4-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, the car is finished in Kilimanjaro White over black vinyl upholstery. It has front disc brakes, 14? slotted alloy wheels, and a Hitachi AM/FM radio. Work performed in 2020 consisted of refurbishing the cylinder head, resealing the transmission and fuel tank, and replacing the dashboard pad, clutch, timing chain, oil pump, engine mounts, and assorted cooling, braking, and suspension components. This 240Z is now offered with a 1970 car invoice copy, recent service records, refurbishment photos, and a clean Georgia title in the seller’s name.
The car was refinished in the factory shade of Kilimanjaro White (904) during the aforementioned refurbishment, and it features a driver-side mirror, Z badging on the C-pillars, bright window trim, and chrome bumpers with rubber overriders and end caps. The car has reportedly been fitted with S30-specification horns from a later model year. There are cracks in the paint on the left headlight surround, paint bubbles are shown at the rear section of the right door, a dent is located on the front bumper, and the seller notes areas of rust on the right frame rail, firewall, and rear hatch area.
The 14? slotted alloy wheels are mounted with 195/70 Yokohama Avid T4 tires. The car was factory equipped with an independent suspension, a front stabilizer bar, and rack-and-pinion steering. Stopping is provided by power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes. The strut towers, strut cartridges, front brake rotors, front upper strut bearings, and lower ball joints were replaced in 2020, and the front wheel bearings were repacked at that time.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in replacement black vinyl, and appointments include a Hitachi AM/FM radio, a wooden shift knob, a center console, a lockable glovebox, an electric rear window defogger, and a heater. A replacement dashboard cover was installed in 2020, and the inside of the glove box door features a Peter Brock signature. The defrost button has been retrofitted with a light, the dashboard clock has been modified to function with a AA battery, and the seller states that the carpets were replaced under current ownership.
A woodgrain steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline. An analog clock and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, amperage, and fuel level are housed over the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 87k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership. The seller states that the turn signals flash slower than the hazard lights.
The 2.4-liter inline-six is equipped with retrofitted twin SU carburetors. Work performed in 2020 consisted of refurbishing the cylinder head, refinishing the air cleaner housing, installing a used air pump, cleaning and resealing the fuel tank, and replacing the following components:
Timing chain
Oil pump & pressure sender
Assorted engine gaskets
Radiator
Water pump & thermostat
Coolant hoses & clamps
Drive belts
Spark plugs
Air duct vents
Fuel hose
Cooling fan & clutch
Engine mounts
The oil was most recently changed in December 2023.
