1939 Pontiac Deluxe Sedan

For consignment, a 1939 Pontiac Deluxe sedan hot rod.  This car has been our consignor's possession for the last 20 years, and under said care has had a 454 big block put in by Jim Lape, a gorgeous exterior arrest me red by Jeff Ludwig, a nice interior by Jeff Ludwig, and is a real eye catcher.  I'll call it a piece of cherry hot rod pie, and it's still steaming...

Exterior
From the wonderful waterfall-esque grille flanking a pointy radiator front cowl, a rounded miles long hood, open air side cowls for the hood and large rounded fenders with red cased bullet style headlights, they will see you coming from a mile away.  Next in line are the running boards and doors which no longer have the "silver streak", but a simple but effective pinstripe replacing it.  The glass is all good and the roofline is subtly rounded over on the corners.  At the back end of the car are two more curvaceous wide fenders which have more bullet style tail lights mounted on wide stalks and aft of these, the fenders dive to the bottom of the car on the back end of them.  A tall humpback trunk is on the very back and floats above a nicely chromed and curved bumper with dual exhaust peeking out from underneath.  A side view of the car shows a subtle rake thanks to 14-inch Weld Prostar wheels wrapped by 215/70R14's on front, and larger 15-inch Weld Prostars on back wrapped by 255/70R15's.  Drop the hanky baby!

Interior
A swing of the doors and we are in custom heaven.  This is accentuated by a frame on the edges of dark gray vinyl and on the interior said frame, a light gray broadcloth which resembles suede.  Some snappy billet style handles and cranks are seen as is a comfy light gray armrest.  Inside, floating on medium gray tweed carpeting peppered with some sparse color threading floats smooth high back buckets sans headrests.  These have the darker gray vinyl for the bolsters and more of the suede like broadcloth tucked and rolled for the inserts.  A back seat stretches across the rear and has a wide dark gray center on the vinyl to add a bot of interest to the large expanse of the tuck and roll light gray.  In front we see a custom dash with an all new instrument cluster now sporting round black faced and white lettered circular gauges and small round turn signal lights.  In the center is an original chromed panel with horizontal ribs and a central P O N T I A C badge.  Fronting the dash is a tilt column and a Lecarra rally steering wheel covered in ivory padded leather.  On the dash top is a GIANT tachometer you cannot miss!  Above is more suede-esque light gray broadcloth stitched in for the tight headliner.  The trunk has been grayed and tweed carpeted and the car comes with a matching wood mailbox now stored in the trunk.  All a neat neutral contrast to the exterior Red.

Drivetrain
Now playing, a massive super chromed add-on and stainless braided piped 454ci big block V8.  It has a Winters foundry aluminum intake and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor.  On the back is a smooth TH400 3-speed automatic sending power to a 10 bolt rear axle.  Nicely done and clean as a whistle under this hood, no wonder it's open sided!

Undercarriage
Underneath as clean and shiny as the top side, with black painted steel  X framing and floor pans as well as clean wheel well interiors.  A black, like new fuel tank is strapped to the chassis and the pumpkin has a chromed plate on the back.  Flowmaster dual exhaust is seen snaking its way from front to rear and piping is stainless steel.  Noted is a Mustang II front suspension is on and on back leaf springs with traction bars.

Drive-Ability
The car came to life with a mighty roaring idle and off to the test track where it exhibits neck snapping acceleration and good handling.  It's a breeze to drive and is very comfy in the interior quarters.  All great for this '39 Pontiac

A nice hot rod with a large power plant that pumps out the horses smoothly and effortlessly.   Paint is beautiful and the engine a cooker and a looker.  The custom interior was well worth the money as well as it presents like new.
