I've owned this 1945 since 2017 from a couple in Greenville SC. At the time, it was primed flat black, had a few dents, and engine was rough. Since then, I've fixed the major dents (minimal Bondo used), removed all surface rust (this truck is super clean with minimal rust - frame is in excellent condition), replaced the old steel wheel with custom gloss American Racing wheels, put brand new tires on in (Mar 2024), replaced blown 216 straight 6-cyl with a 218 rebuilt engine, put a new bed - stained and shellacked x 3, fixed the electrical system and lights, put an electric fan that stays on when ignition is on, and tuned up the engine including new oil change (Apr 2024). Has duel single-barrel Carter carburetors.
This truck starts and drives out good. She drives straight and does not pull to either side! No power steering or power brakes in this 79-year-old truck! The floorboard pedal starter next to the gas pedal makes it easy to start. This truck is a head-turner! Very sharp looking and when the suns out, the metallic silver paint job shines! As with any vehicle I sell in my collection, I always am honest with what it needs so there are no surprises. With the work we have put into this truck, I want it to go to an owner that will take care of her! She needs to start and run every week. These classic trucks do NOT do well sitting. But, if you keep her running, she will stay running. Comes with a parts book and a 100+ page manual we used in the restoration of the truck. I took a few pics of the manual so you can see all the chapters and detail.
What she needs to be an "A" truck:
1. Interior - the seats are original, and the current cover is average at best. The floorboard needs painting and install carpet.
2. Battery - battery is older (3+ years) - it will need replacing soon but starts and holds a charge now.
3. Window tint - both DS and PS doors needs retinting. It is just old and I never got around to it.
4. Shocks - I think the truck would drive even better with new shocks. It is just real stiff right now so you may like it how it is vs. making the ride "softer".
5. Engine - it has a rebuilt engine so it will need the valves adjusted in 50+ miles or so. The radiator was just drained/cleaned and refilled (Jun 2024).
6. Exterior - Like all older trucks, there are a few paint chips. I've touched most of them up. What the truck needs is a good wax/buff job top to bottom. I have really bad shoulders, or I would do it.
Truck is in Auburn, AL - just west of Columbus, GA. I welcome test drives with accredited buyers (proof of funds via a letter of credit from your bank) and private/3rd party mechanic inspection. There are multiple "mobile mechanics" in my area.
Buyer is responsible for transportation. Funds must clear before I release the vehicle to a car carrier. I can assist with scheduling a car carrier. Depending on the number of vehicles on the drivers trailer, hauling a vehicle usually cost $1.35 to $2.25/mile including fuel surcharge.
