1947 Chevrolet 3800/3100
NO Reserve! Dump bed
This is the very first year of the post-war advance design pickup from Chevy, and it is truly a great example. Here is a link to a YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgxULt6ZDUo) of it running & operating or go to YouTube and search Cort's 1947 Chevy 3800.
First of all - this is a one ton pickup - not a larger truck, so the hood, fenders, cab, and all are the same as a 3100 half ton pickup. This pickup is easy to drive and easy to haul, it will haul on any decent size car trailer. It has a 9ft bed and is about 19ft overall length. About the same size as my 2024 GMC 1/2 ton short bed, I included a pic of them together for perspective. I picked this up from a farm family in Nebraska(right on the Nebraska Colorado border where it is very dry) - and it had been in the family as long as anyone could remember - possibly since new. It had been parked in the barn and forgotten about until some of the grandkids decided play around in the barn and managed to somehow crack both of the windshields - exactly how it happened varies by which grandkid you listen to (hey, we were all kids once!) I do have 2 new windshields that will go with this pickup - and since it has been stored inside, the rubber molding is still soft enough that they should go in pretty easy.
So the family decided to pull the truck out of the barn so they could sell it, but unfortunately the engine was stuck from setting so long. A local shop had access to a used engine (216, identical to one pulled out) and they had him put it in. This is the point where I purchased the truck.
All I have done is clean it up a bit and check it over to see what all it needs. This is still a little bit of a project, but it is a running, driving, rust free project. It was a farm truck, so there are dings and imperfections here and there, after all it is nearly 80 year old, but being inside all those years really preserved it beautifully.
If you are somewhat mechanical, this pickup is going to take a couple of weekends worth of tinkering to make it a dependable driver - here is a quick rundown. The waterpump will need to be replaced - it doesn't leak or overheat, but it is noisy like a bad bearing. The rear main seal leaks oil. The brakes will pump up and work with fluid added, but it needs a master cylinder, or a kit put in the one it has. The glass is missing from the speedo, these are available for about $15 here on eBay. There will undoubtedly be a few more things, but you get the idea - the engine runs nice, the transmission shifts fine, and best of all - the hydraulic driven dump bed works great. All the gauges seem to work properly.
The body on this old pickup is rock solid. The floors are great, the cab corners are rust free, it is really amazing. You just don't find original trucks that are this solid. Some of the paint on the hood as faded to a nice patina. I did a quick hand wax with some cleaner wax, and it looks awesome. Personally, I would buff it out and then clear coat it, or just leave it like it is. They are only original once! But once it's yours, you can do as you please to make it your own.
This pickup will come with a good clean Kansas title. I am a Kansas dealer, which means I am bonded and insured. Please read my past feedback from lots of old trucks - no disappointments here! Also - I am fine with it setting here (as long as its paid for) free of charge while you arrange pickup/transport. Please call or text Cort @ 620-786-5172 with any questions, I love to talk about old trucks. Thanks and Good Luck!
