This 1931 Cadillac 370-A V-12 5-Passenger Coupe is a beautifully restored pre-war luxury car and is among the first V-12 Cadillacs produced. By 1930, Cadillac was a dominating force in the American luxury car market, at the high-end with its V-16 models and at the entry-level end with its Cadillac V8s and LaSalles. In April 1930, the president of Cadillac Motor Car Company Lawrence P. Fisher informed Cadillac-LaSalle dealers that the luxury car maker would be introducing an intermediate model, the 370 Model outfitted with a new V12 engine. The new 12 cylinder engines were essentially a shorter version of Cadillac's V-16 engine design with 4 cylinders removed. In 1931, the V12 Cadillacs were known as the 370-A models and sold quite well, however, that sales success was at the expense of Cadillac's V-16 lineup. As consumers were feeling the effects of the Great Depression further, many opted for the V12 370-A Cadillacs over the V16 models since the V12s were considered just as impressive but were less expensive. This particular 370-A 5-Passenger Coupe is a Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) Full Classic and comes to us from the hands of collectors who clearly took their stewardship of this fine automobile seriously by preserving it exceptionally well. Under the louvered hood on this antique '31 Cadillac is a well-detailed 368 Cubic Inch V-12 paired with dual 1 barrel carburetors that pushed out 135 horsepower in its day. The 368 V12 is backed by a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted using a floor mounted shifter. Exhaust exits this Cadillac's 12 Cylinder engine via a dual exhaust setup which gives the car a really nice, smooth-running sound. Vacuum-assist drum brakes make it much easier to bring this 5,000+ pound Cadillac to a full stop and would have been standard equipment back in 1931. This 1931 Cadillac V12 is also equipped with the optional dual side mirrors which would have cost a whopping $32 in the day. Riding on a set of wide whitewall tires on light green painted wire wheels with Cadillac crested hubcaps, this Cadillac 370-A has a truly classic look rolling down the road. This Cadillac is also equipped with a rear-mounted spare tire that sits under a fabric cover. A set of auxiliary driving lights are mounted on the front fenders and are another nice option on this pre-war Cadillac. The chrome and brightwork, including the radiator stone guard and Flying Goddess hood ornament, are all in wonderful condition and show particularly well. The Fisher body on this '31 Cadillac 370-A has been refinished in a beautiful Meadow Grass Green color and the fenders, like many Cadillacs of the day, have been refinished in black. The interior on this 1931 Cadillac V-12 is stunning! The front opera-style bucket seats and rear bench seat have been beautifully reupholstered in a corded tan broadcloth. The woodgrain dash, tan broadcloth upholstered door panels, emerald green carpeting, and steering wheel are all in fantastic condition as well and appear to be in their stock configuration. The lighted dash is equipped with a 100 MPH speedometer, amp gauge, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, fuel gauge, and a clock. Whether you're adding to your existing pre-war classic car collection or you're purchasing your first classic car, this 1931 Cadillac 370-A 5 Passenger Coupe would make an excellent choice.
