Hello, thank you for viewing this 1985 Chevrolet C30 dually pick up.
If any questions or pic/video request, please reach out via messenger.
I found this truck setting in a field in Albuquerque New Mexico in 2020 while searching for some 1/2 ton C10’s. The owner had the truck setting on their property for well over 10 years.
I’ve only seen acouple of ex cabs, and all were 1/2 ton, so needless to say I had to have it.This has been my personal project going on for 4 years now. The truck was originally purchased in Dallas Texas. As a dealer option the original buyer had the truck sent to Overland Coach in the DFW metro area to have the cab extended.
Based on my research there was 18” taken out of the besides and added tha tsheet metal to the cab to extended it. The bed header was then attached to the existing bedsides taking it from a long bed to a “medium” bed. Note the frame was not modified and the truck is a true 2 door “single cab” 1-ton C30 dually. From what I was able to find online there were two companies in the Dallas area doing this modification. One was CVI and the other was Overland Coach. Both companies had the option to send the modified trucks to Western Hauler once completed for some additional customization. Based on the forums/groups and conversations with other ex-cab owners, I’ve concluded there were ~50 ex cabs C/K trucks built in 1985. A significant number were 1/2 ton trucks with double digit extended crew cab K30’s and half a dozen 2 door K30’s. My understanding there were four total 2 doorC30 Dually’s built making this a very rare and unique truck.
The truck was born with a 454/auto trans, power windows, locks, tilt and cruise.
As I took on the project my plan was to keep it long term and use it as my personal hauler. Things have changed and I have since decided to move on to other aspects in my life.
Once I acquired the truck I had it sent to Rick Breito in ABQ to tear down and do a complete paint change over. It is a base coat, clearcoat Dodge B5 Blue with a little blue added. The color really pops in the sun. Being from TX and NM the truck had zero rust other than some surface rust where the filler shrunk and cracked from the desert sun. (I have pictures prior to painting and during the tear down process).
The truck then headed to Michael’s Truck Works in Mesa AZ. While there the GM Crate 454 motor was installed, the TH400 trans was rebuilt, added a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft. All new suspension components were replaced including control arms, bushings, brakes, drums, springs, brake hoses and all steering components. Both saddle tanks are new with new sending units and headers to tail pipes are also new. MTW completed the 5/7 drop with a weld in notch. The frame and components were all painted black. 6 new custom cut and milled 22” Alcoa’s were added with the rear outers being steer wheels. So the truck retains its original rear end and the bed was not modified to tuck the Alcoa’s.
The next steps included new windshield, rear glass, ex cab glass cut (originally Lexan) and restored wing windows installed. Upgraded the power windows with the LMC power window relay upgrade. New felts, rubbers and seals installed.
For the interior the truck has a new dash pad, vents, bezel/lens, trim, switches for the power windows/locks, upgraded steering wheel. All gauges and tank selector work. The high back bucket seats were reupholstered, and new foam added as well as new carpet. The interior looks very well for its age outside of the new upholstery.
Exterior updates include all new markers, signals, paint matched grille, lights and bed rhino lined. New bumpers, marker trim, cab lights and cab band molding.
The 454 Crate motor has 600~700 miles on it. Upgraded the intake and carb to Edelbrock and 750 CFM carb. Has headers/high flow mufflers and dumps behind the rear axle. The truck is peppy and there are zero leaks and can drive across the country. The AC has all new hoses/components. It currently is not charged with Freon but will be fully functional prior to the auction ending.
This truck has been updated over the last 4 years, so I’m confident there are some things I’m forgetting. There are a few things that I wanted to complete that I do recall. I have not found a good set of drip rail moldings. The holes are there but I don’t have the molding and bright work. The truck has the original seat belts. They are functional but dated. I have a billet coolant overflow that I haven’t installed yet. The factory radio stopped working. I misplaced the original wiper arms so the truck doesn’t have any. It doesn’t get driven in the very rare rain we get in AZ. I have not tested the wiper motor, so I assume it needs to be replaced. The underside of the bed I did not have painted intentionally as I planned to bed line it. Dino’s Git Down came before I had time to finish the truck, so I put the truck together to make the show. So, I have not taken the bed back off to do the underside. Partly b/c when the bed comes off I wanted to add some tow bags and a receiver while off.
The truck does get driven so there are a couple of rock chips. There’s a blemish in the clear coat above one of the windows. I had the truck ceramic coated, buffed and waxed last fall. The truck doesn’t set out in the 117-degree heat btw.
This is a very cool and rare truck. It’s almost overwhelming the amount of attention it gets especially with how hot square body trucks are right now. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. It is rust free, and in very good condition, but this is not an indoor show truck. Meaning it’s not 100% perfect and was built to drive and pull a trailer. I have a ton of pictures and quite a bit of video I would be happy to share with serious buyers. I am motivated to sell and will assist with shipping/delivery to the best of my ability. I do have a few connections with shipping companies/brokers. I am located in Gilbert AZ and my zip code is 85234.
I am self-employed of a single owner/operator business. I will do my best to answer any/all questions I can but may be delayed at times.
Yes, I will consider trades above and beyond 25k cash. I am not interested in projects, salvage title vehicles etc. I simply don’t have the time. Items I'm interested in are Turbo SxS’s, Boats, cars/trucks/motorcycles, basically any thing with a motor. Must be turnkey operational please.
If you are local yes, please come take a look. If you are financing, yes someone can come inspect it also. Send a mechanic or whomever you see fit. Nothing to hide here.
I was asked about the title "issue": If you click on the "vehicle history report" in ad it will direct you to the description of the title. It states, "Odometer Brands (not actual miles, broken odometer, exceeding mechanical limits, mileage discrepancy, or suspect miles)".
At some point. The MVD didn't put/know the actual miles, so they stated "exceeded mechanical limits". There are zero issues with the title. It is licensed, registered and insured in my name and is legal to operate on the street. There are no brands, liens etc.
