The Land Rover Discovery was introduced in 1989. The first generation of Discovery is known as the Discovery 1, and was based on the Land Rover Range Rover. The Discovery 1 is credited as being one of the first truly off-road capable family cars. Also known as the 'Disco,' the Discovery 1 is the only generation of Discovery to feature two door variants, with all later Discovery's sold as four door versions. The Discovery 1 was offered with a range of inline four or V8 engines and was in production until 1998. The Discovery 1 was replaced by the Land Rover Discovery 2.
