This 1986 Toyota MR2 was purchased by the current owner in2000 with 118K miles accumulated. It is believed he is the third owner. The odometer now shows 176.5K miles. This car is equipped with a 1.6-liter 16 valve DOHC engine. The intake manifold and cylinder head incorporate individual intake runners for each intake valve with a T-VIS system to only open the second intake valve above 4,200 RPM to maintain high intake runner air velocity. The engine happily revs to redline and has a wide power band making city driving easy. The car is equipped with a slick shifting 5speed manual gearbox.
The exterior of the car was recently painted by the owner in Duplicolor Performance red. The engine was rebuilt with new 0.5mm oversize pistons and new crank 3K miles ago. The alternator was replaced ~2K miles ago. Modifications include Tokico shocks, Suspension Techniques springs, a short shifter kit from Racing Strong Engineering, A Centerforce II pressure plate, the flywheel has been lightened, and the car is fitted with 5 spoke 15x6 wheels with 205/50R15 Yokohama S Drive tires. The instrument cluster includes gauges for Voltage, Fuel, Oil Pressure and Coolant Temperature as well as a7500 RPM redline tachometer.
The interior is stock except that the driver seat rear mounts have been removed and the rear rack ends bolted directly to the floor for additional head room. (the current driver is 6’4”). The factory A/C is fully installed except for the drive belt and has not been operated in ~10 years. A previous owner cut a pocket into the center console behind the shifter for an alarm touch pad, which interfered with the shift linkage so the hole is covered with tape. The current radio/CD player is getting old..
The car passed a smog check in May 2024 but if sold into California will require a new catalytic converter to pass the next test as the old one is grandfathered in for the current owner only.
