1929 Pontiac Series 6-29 Convertible Coupe

For consignment from the late roaring twenties, we give you a Pontiac Series 6-29 Convertible Coupe.  This car's previous owner purchased it from an estate where it had been in long term storage.  He went about recommissioning it with some engine work, a carburetor rebuild and new battery and cables as well as new tires and a fuel system flush.  Once completed in 2017 the previous owner became ill and it went back into storage.  Our current consignor picked it up, and did another fuel system flush and a new battery and the car came right back to life.

Exterior
All steel mostly rust free is painted with Pilgrim Gray over a brown base coating.  As with the design of most cars of the era, it has floating side fenders connected by a running board.  These frame orange painted wire wheels which also have a spare on each side tucked into the front fender.  A shiny radiator surround is looking good with its Pontiac chief radiator cap.  Large chromed headlights flank the radiator on either side.  Below, a dual bar bumper frames the bottom.  A long cowled hood has some accenting side pinstripes on the vents on  the side cowls.  The paint shows some areas of chip off, cracking can crazing, and some opening in the edges near seams.  A neat little 2 door coupe with a tan canvas convertible top which shows some minor water damage and has chromed landau bars on each side.  A nice oval glass window is in the black and this leads our eye to the curved rumble seat with a large body matching trunk mounted to the back of the car just above the rear bumper.  All glass is looking good and the car has straight body panels and nicely minded gaps despite the chip off and damage to the paint.

Interior
Brown velour covers the simple square door panels which have slightly dulled actuators and cranks.  Inside, a large brown velour overstuffed bench has wide tuck and roll inserts and its sits in a brown velour tub.  Upfront, the dash shows its factory black paint and has round gauges in blackface and white lettering and a few night lights to illuminate the gauges.  Below is brown carpeting covering the floors and it's clean and not faded, looking fairly new.  A large bakelite steering wheel fronts the dash, and a long armed shifter reaches for the driver.  Above the inside of the canvas top is a brown corduroy and it too is looking very good.  The rumble seat is black vinyl and also has some tuck and roll in its seat and back.

Drivetrain
Under the open cowl hood we can gaze upon a deep green painted engine block and flat cast head.  It is a 6 cylinder and weighs in at 200ci.  It has a 1-barrel carburetor and a 3-speed manual transmission on the back.  The rear axle is a 4.42 geared version.  All is looking good and sound under this hood with supple wiring and hoses and a new belt.

Undercarriage
All these years of storage have been good for this car as we see black painted rust free framing and floor pans.  No road dirt and a like new exhaust system.  Body hangers are solid and running board bottoms are also rust free.   Leaf springs provide the ride and mechanical drum brakes are on all 4 corners.

Drive-Ability
The car fired right up and ran smoothly.  On the test drive it went through the gears easily and smoothly, had snappy pickup and easy steering.  The seat was comfy and the overall experience was a pleasant one...2 thumbs up.

A nicely preserved example with some areas of paint issues but no rust on the body or undercarriage.  The interior has a new seat and carpeting and the original dash is showing well.  Happy Motoring Chief!
