About the model
The second generation of Chevrolet Impala was introduced for the 1959 model year. The second generation of Impala saw the nameplate become an independent model, whereas, for the First Generation, the Impala had been the top trim level for the Chevrolet Bel Air. As the Impala was now a standalone model, more body styles were available, with four offerings: convertible, four-door hardtop, two-door hardtop, and four-door sedan. The standard engine used for the Impala was a 3.9L inline six, but a wide range of V8 engines were optional. Chevrolet built the second generation until 1960 and replaced it with the Third Generation Impala.
