I've had this CJ5 for a little over 10 years and drove it some.
A little over three years ago I decided to do some actual fixing and restoration at least to a point.
Sometime after that I wound up being hospitalized a few times and didn't do much except buy parts periodically. Over the past year I have lost interest in the project and no longer need the Jeep here.
It did run up until the time I took the body off. The original tub is essentially rusted beyond repair to me but I still have it along with a M38 body tub that isn't in very good shape as well. They can go with the chassis if wanted.
The steering box was professionally rebuilt a few years ago.
Tires and wheels were bought new and have maybe 200 miles on them.
The spare has no miles and I also have the two piece tire carrier as I was going to make some kind of fold down or swing away rack. I never liked the side mounted like the originals used.
Both seats are in great condition and came with the jeep originally.
The previous owner rebuilt the engine and it did have a tiny bit of valve noise on #1 but not enough to mean anything.
I put in an aftermarket electronic distributor along with a Weber 2 barrel carb after converting to an electrical fuel pump.
The exhaust manifold was high temp powder coated earlier this year.
I replaced a couple of studs for the exhaust, they were broken already. Those were discovered when I took the manifold off. I wound up having to helicoil the very last stud.
Early on the water pump, thermostat and radiator were replaced.
I put on a higher amp alternator. There wasn't a generator originally.
The front lights on the powder coated bumper were bought new by me.
All of the powder coating was done a local place I've dealt with for years.
The colors:
Gloss black.
Forrest Powders Laguna Blue
RAL 7043 Gray
For paint I used Fusion gloss or satin black. With blue, I used Old Ford mostly. POR 15 was the main clear coating I used.
The rest of the exhaust is powder coated in gloss black.
I replaced the rear springs recently. That is when I found I really don't have much desire to play mechanic anymore. They are on there snug but not to any spec. I was glad to just get them on.
The dash is the military style and gauges are aftermarket. None tested.
I bought a new crossmember for the transmission and reused the original skid plate.
The transmission has long since had a couple of bad bearings. I found out a few weeks after I bought the jeep. The transfer case engaged normally the few times I ran it.
I could never find anyone local to rebuild the transmission and am more than a bit leery of aftermarkets.
The starter has been rebuilt a couple of times since I had the jeep over the years.
I also have a pair of aftermarket LED square tail lights for the later models as well. They were on the tub before I stripped it. I never liked the original round ones.
The shocks were replaced by me early on.
I had the hitch and front bumper powder coated.
I never got around to connecting the steering. The concrete doesn't exactly do me any favors now.
Both fenders are aftermarket and I found that I am not much of a sheet metal person trying to custom cut to fit. You may not want them.
The steering wheel is a replacement.
It has the original single chamber master cylinder that probably needs to be replaced. The drums have never been off so I don't know what shape the shoes are in.
Photos of the major parts that come with the jeep are show. I have more little parts in bins and on shelves around that go with the jeep on pickup. As I find them, they will get added to collection.
The fuel tank is new along with the sending unit. I had the tank powder coated.
The windshield frame is for a later model that would support the electric motor with new glass.
Both the tailgate and hood are original.
The spark plug holder is aftermarket.
I bought the aftermarket backup light switch.
Feel free to ask questions because I have probably forgotten some things. Visits are welcome and I'll give my contact information to interested parties.
