I purchased the 1977 Plymouth Volare used in 1981 with a stock 6 cylinder engine and base line model trim.Car was stripped and refitted with a Speedway Motors USAC 14 point weld-in roll cage kit. Engine and transmission were replaced with are built 1967 340ci engine bored out .030” with cast aluminum 10:1 TRW pistons ( all equal weight), a rare 1964 polysphere 318 forged and hardened crankshaft, balanced connecting rods, purple street cam, 2 stage marine fuel pump, windage tray, marine brass freeze plugs, marine single plane open plenum aluminum marine intake manifold (gasket matched to the stock heads). The cylinder head ports were polished and combustion chambers cc'ed. Transmission is a 727 torque flight with the additional 'hemi' clutch stack and performance springand porting of the valve body. Torque converter is rated at 2800 rpm stall (a little high for autocross as I found out later). Rear axle is 8 1\4” posi unit from my old 1976 Valiant police interceptor –stock ratio. Bucket seats are from a 1976 Levi edition Gremlin 'X'.Complete 4 way harness for both seats. Battery box is in back seat space behind passenger seat. Stock gas tank is still installed – it will have to be replaced. Engine was last run in 1994 – it is still loose (not seized). Thermoquad carburetor and fuel pump will have to be rebuilt. Tires are Gaterback VR rated and had been 'ground down' for autocross and should be replaced (they still hold air). The hood is the last remaining fiberglass piece from Mr. Fiberglass forthe Paul Rossi race team. Front fiberglass fenders are original Chrysler recall replacement units for the Volare and Aspen rust-thru issues in the 1977 thru 1979 production cars. The car is stuffed into a storage garage (note pics) and will need assistance to partially open up an area around it to be rolled out (it sits on 4 wheel dollies that move really well). All turn signals, headlights, brakelights, and wipers work. Mileage is based on when car was rebuilt.
