This is a genuine 442 and it is also 1 of only 268 Pace Cars made! The 344 in the VIN verifies it is a 442, the Y84 on the trim tag verifies it is a Pace Car. An Oldsmobile 442 was the chosen car to Pace the Indy 500 in 1970. The ram air 455 offered plenty of power and the Porcelain white background was perfect for showing off the Indy 500 call out on each door.

EXTERIOR: This is a stunning Pace Car with its bold stripes and ram air scoops! All the metal is clean, there's no rust or paint bubbles. The doors shut like new. The factory ram air hood is in excellent shape, and it also has correct 1970 only sport mirrors. The Porcelain white paint is smooth and glossy. Correct black decal stripes are outlined in red. The power convertible top appears to be replaced and in excellent condition. It's stanced correctly on its body color SS ll 15" Rally wheels with Goodyear tires. The windshield appears original, but in very great shape. The chrome is in good shape with minor imperfections. The grills, bezels, and chrome look like new.

INTERIOR: Beautiful interior in very good condition. All the knobs, window cranks, and trim pieces look really good. The dash features the factory Tic-Toc Tachometer and an Am-Fm radio. The Tilt column has a sport wheel. A Hurst dual gate shifter sits in the console between 2 bucket seats. They've been reupholstered and in great shape. Door panels look good too.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The engine bay is very representable. Sitting in the center is the correct 455ci with correct heads, and it's all stock. The manifold, valve covers, and ram air air cleaner are all proper. The power brakes, power steering, hoses, clamps, and fluid reservoir look to be correct.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk lid has been painted glossy smooth with factory stickers, the jambs and weather stripping look great. It has the correct spatter paint finish that is in great condition with a two-piece trunk liner mat. There's even a matching spare wheel/tire with mount and jack, and Oldsmobile specific lug wrench!

UNDERSIDE: It is not detailed but it looks honest, solid, and proper. The floors appear to be original, not rusted, patched, or camouflaged with undercoat. but free of any rot. It has the original Rally suspension which gives you boxed control arms in the rear, heavy duty sway bars front and rear. The springs, shocks, sway bar bushings, lower ball joints look recently replaced. The power brakes are disc up front and drum in the rear. E-brake is hooked up. The dual trumpet tip exhaust has a nice deep grunt with this big block and is a pleasant sound. This incredibly torque-rich powerplant is teamed with GM's 400 Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission. It has its original 12 bolt Posi traction 3.23 rear end.

SERVICE: Through our onsite shop inspection, we recalibrated the speedometer, repaired interior dash lights, replaced a headlight, front end alignment, replaced radiator bypass hose, new lock cylinders and new valve cover gaskets.

Rare is the keyword when describing this pace car 442. It's not a frame off restoration however it's been well kept, and all the key components have been replaced or restored to keep this unique pace car looking great over the years. Only 268 lucky people snagged these when new, and you could be the new owner with even less of them in existence today.

A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year membership.

About Volo Auto Museum

No other collector car dealer has been in business longer than the Volo Auto Museum.  Owned and operated by the Grams family since 1960.  We are the only collector car dealer that has 4 generations of experience with buying, selling and consigning classic autos.  For our family, classic cars are more than a business, it is a passion.  Over the decades, we have maintained a reputation for dealing with integrity as proven with our high reviews and A+ rating with the BBB.

Buying a classic car can be exciting, but also stressful.  We want to take the stress out of your buying experience by allowing you the time and tools you need to get to know the car you are interested in before making your investment, not after.  Unlike auctions, we allow test drives, 3rd party inspections, the use of our shop and car lift.  No reasonable request will be turned down.

Selling a car can be equally stressful, but it doesn’t have to be.  After reviewing your quality collector car, we will discuss the options we have available to you and let you decide what works best for you.  We have cash available for immediate sales and we also offer a consignment program that surpasses anyone else’s.   Unlike percentage based programs with fees; we work with a no fee, net to owner.  This allows us the opportunity to treat and market your car as if it were our own.  We invest approximately $1500 of our own money into marketing your car, which means if it doesn’t sell, we lose, not you.  So, we are more aggressive in selling your car!
