Presented exclusively by Wolf and Mare, this 1998 Land Rover Defender 90 Wolf is a rare opportunity to acquire a soft-top Defender with a special Royal military connection.
Formerly operated by the British military, this right-hand drive Land Rover was reconditioned in 2016 to participate in The Queen’s 90th Birthday celebrations. Its robust military upgrades paired with its refurbishment as a ceremonial vehicle make it a capable yet civilized off-roader, cruiser or pleasure vehicle.
This special Defender was purchased from Nene Overland in the UK after being decommissioned, and was imported in 2024 by the seller who obtained a clean Virginia title. This vehicle's VIN is SALLDAA67VA131333. As this vehicle was built in the UK and imported under the 25 year rule this year, it does not show up in Ebay's VIN check system.
Painted in Bronze Green during its refurbishment with a black, gray and green interior, exterior features include a durable PVC soft top, tailgate with spare wheel carrier, extra spare wheel mountings on the hood and side, and NATO tow hitch. The car received numerous upgrades and new parts during its refresh in 2016 for The Queen’s 90th Birthday. The exterior presents well with some evidence of its use in the last 8 years as a Ministry of Defence vehicle.
Military upgrades to the interior include full 24 volt electrics with dual battery, front and rear rollover protection, acoustic matting, refreshed seats, map light and lockable sliding windows. Interior components are intact and present well with an attractive patina of use by Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. Flip up rear seats with seat belts and a rubber floor mat occupy the rear cargo space.
The 2.5L 300TDi Turbo Diesel is among the most desirable engines for Defenders owing to its simplicity and longevity. Putting out 111hp but almost 200 lb-ft of torque, the lightweight aluminum over steel chassis Wolf scoots when properly motivated. The 5-speed R380 gearbox shifts smoothly with no grinds in any gear. Steering is light due to installed power steering with 3.5 turns lock to lock.
Many Defenders suffer from significant corrosion, but this Defender Wolf received a wax-injected chassis treatment and Waxoyl protection on the entire underbody. Some light corrosion can be seen here and there but as can be seen in the photos, this Defender is solid.
With NAS spec and custom Defenders commanding high five-figure prices and above, this Land Rover Defender 90 Wolf is a wonderful chance to own a unique, capable, and fun vehicle with a fantastic history at a reasonable price.
