HIGHLIGHTS-
BODY and FRAME: Overall the car looks good with a nice stance. The body had previous rear end damage, as evidenced by the replacement upper rear surround, rear taillamp panel and both rear splash shields. The lower rear valence has cutouts for exhaust tips but none for reverse lights (wiring harness ends are there). Front fenders show factory bonding strips with two notches on both fender lips. Doors open and close fine but there is damage on the lower front corner of the LH (driver’s side) door and rust showing on the rear inside corner of the same door (nice used LH door and two used original GM rear splash shields included). Decklid operates as original; hood lines up okay but needs adjusted. Numerous stress cracks and paint chips are visible throughout the entire body. No rust visible along the side windshield pillar posts or radiator core support. Core support houses an original ’68 only 4-row radiator. Windshield wiper door assembly with grille and actuator is off the car but included. The frame is solid but shows surface oxidation throughout with scaling along the rear of the car including the trailing arms and rear suspension. The rear kick-ups and frame rail end caps are solid. The gas door has an enlarged mounting hole where the emblem attaches.
Front bumper, bumperettes,
front grilles, headlight assemblies, parking lights, rear bumpers, rear license
plate frame, spare tire lid and tub, taillights, side marker lights, rocker
covers and rocker trim stainless are all intact in “driver” condition (spare
tire tub shows damage/repairs). Headlights work but do not pop up when
activated; headlight bezels are pot metal. Side rear view mirror and all chrome
show decent shine with some pitting. Stainless trim rings with original GM center
caps mounted on 15x7” Rallye wheels (FW code) with older tires. No spare. I do
not have any door keys.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT/MECHANICAL: All major components in the engine compartment
appear to be matching numbers. Block, intake, head (only checked one),
carburetor, starter, alternator all show GM part numbers and date codes that
coincide with the year (1968) and build date (June 15, 1968) of the car. Car
has open headers with no exhaust (included – see photos). The car starts, runs,
stops, and drives forward and in reverse when engaged. Although the car is
registered, insured and on the road, I have only driven it locally.
INTERIOR: driver quality - seats, door panels, upper and lower
dash pads, kick panels, sun visors, console, shifter plate and replacement rear
compartment doors are all there. Dash pads look good; door panels show numerous
areas of wear/damage. Seats are early ’68 with lower latches. All gauges work (except
for the clock/tach is sporadic). Tachometer redlines at 5,300 RPM; speedometer
shows 70,179 miles. The original simulated woodgrain steering wheel is there
but shows cracks. Seat belts are stiff but in place. The soft-top frame appears
to have been blasted and painted with some sort of rust inhibitor. It will need
some replacement parts/hardware to be usable – some soft-top frame parts have
been sourced which are included and can be seen in one of the photos.
OVERVIEW: The car came out of long-term storage and had not been
driven since 1985. I have limited history and no factory paperwork with the
car. I bought the car last December, selling points being the color combination
and nice power options (windows, steering, brakes). My goal since purchase has
been to get the car running and road worthy.
Here is the list of what has
been replaced/repaired:
· Ignition insert with new key.
· Some fuel lines prior to fuel pump
· Fuel pump.
· All fuel lines from fuel pump to carb
· Spark plugs
· Oil change and filter.
· Radiator flush with new coolant
· Radiator hoses/heater hoses
· Alternator bracket for headers
· Choke pull-off.
· PCV valve
· Rebuilt original starter.
· Turn signal switch.
· Wiring issues with rear taillights/brake lights.
· Horn contact cam
· Power brake booster with vacuum hose
· Master cylinder
· All brake lines & hoses
· Brake calipers (all 4)
· Brake pads.
· LR brake line block
· Automatic transmission filter with five quarts of ATF
I have an exhaust system that
goes with the car; it is not new but looks complete. (see photo). I also have the
wiper door (with molding), wiper grille and wiper door actuator. I also have a nice used drivers side door (LH), two used GM rear splash shields (#3928821 and #3928822), distributor shielding (box) and both vertical ignition shields with painted mounting brackets.
I have since purchased another
original 1968 Corvette convertible with lower miles, L-79 engine, 4-speed with
both tops in my favorite color combination of LeMans Blue over Bright Blue (see last photo). I prefer to not
keep both cars, so this Corvette is expendable. Obviously, I have a lot
invested to date ($2,081 in parts alone), and the car needs more attention to
be a dependable driver. Personal inspections of the car are both welcomed and
recommended. Shipping will be the responsibility of the buyer, but I can help
prepare the car and parts for shipment if needed. The car is currently
registered, insured and located about thirty (30) miles southeast of Columbus,
Ohio. I have a clear Ohio title in my name with mileage showing actual. All
receipts since I have purchased the car go with it, along with some prior Ohio registrations.
Wire transfer or cash upon pickup of the car is preferred. Thanks, Duane
