1967 Corvette Coupe L79 327 4 Speed
Up for sale is a 1967 Corvette Coupe.
This car was owned by my neighbor who recently passed away. I am selling the car for his widow and will
do my best to describe it. The owner was
a mechanic by trade and worked at a Chevrolet dealer in the 70’s and then
retired as a mechanic from a local bottling plant where he maintained all of
their fleet vehicles. I have personally
known the car since 1984. It’s an L79
(350HP), 327 NOM, 4 speed , manual steering, manual brakes, Marina blue, blue
interior.
Body / Paint: Per the trim
tag, the Body is “A-2207 AO Smith” and the Paint is “976 (Bright Blue) that we
always called Marina Blue. The owner
painted the car himself in the mid to late 80’s and it is a 5 out of 10. It is not show quality but presentable /
driver quality. He did scratch the
driver side fender about two years ago and it was resprayed. I do not believe the car was in any accidents. All of the bonding strips are in place. The paint in the door jambs also appears to
be original.
Interior: The interior is very
presentable and I believe the door panels and the carpet are original. The seats were recovered at one time and the
original seat covers will be included.
All of the gauges work along with the clock and radio.
Drivetrain: The 327 is not
original to the car but it is a 1967 block.
Based on my research it’s from a 1967 Camaro. The casting number is 3903352 and the deck
number is K04 13 KL. The intake is an
older aluminum Edelbrock C3BX which I believe is the predecessor to the
Performer The carb is a Holley 650 cfm with mechanical secondaries. The base of the air cleaner appears to be
original but the lid and decal are reproductions. For the exhaust, headers were installed and
they are connected to a newer replacement stainless exhaust. The original exhaust manifolds will be
included. The transmission is an M21
Muncie 4 speed and it is original to the car (the VIN is stamped on the
housing). The car currently has an older
Hurst Competition shifter but the original shifter will be included as well.
History: This is my recollection of the history of car as told to me
by my neighbor before his passing. His
parents lived in Olyphant, PA about 20 minutes from our neighborhood. On his way to visit to his parents he spotted
the car under a car port in Dickson City, PA.
He stopped several times and finally knocked on the door of the
house. The gentleman who owned the house
said it was his son’s car and that his son currently lived in New England. I’m guessing it was Greenwich Connecticut
since the original keys are on a leather keychain from “Allen Brothers;
Cadillac / Oldsmobile, Greenwich CT.”
After stopping at the house several times, the father called his son and
my neighbor was able to work out a deal to buy the car over the phone. The son mentioned that he had blown the
original engine but replaced it with another 1967 350. At that time my neighbor called Jim Morrel
Towing in Scranton PA and had the car towed to his house on a roll back. This was in 1984 and I have pictures of the title
when it was issued on September 25, 1984.
The mileage was listed as 14,000.
The odometer currently reads approx.. 22,700 miles. I’m not claiming it’s a 22,700 mile car. All I’m stating is what the odometer stated
when he bought it and what it states today.
I personally do not believe the car has 122,700 miles but that’s only my
opinion.
A few side notes:
- When my neighbor restored the car, a majority of the parts were
sourced from GM. I found original GM
boxes for the taillights, door handles, etc, that came from either Tom Hesser
Chevrolet in Scranton PA or AJ Chevrolet in Moscow, PA.
- I personally put about 100 miles on the car and everything appears to
work. The car is tight and all the
gauges, clock, headlights, etc. work.
- As noted earlier, a number of parts original to the car will be included. These include the exhaust manifolds, 4 speed
shifter, heater core, alternator case and seat covers.
- There is no other paperwork with the car.
The Widow has went through all of her Husband’s files and was not able
to find anything. Also there is no tank sticker
from what I can tell.
- This is a nice car that is driver quality.
It’s not perfect nor NCRS.
- The car currently has a clean Pennsylvania antique vehicle title that is
now in the Widow’s name.
- The car can been seen by appointment only.
- Payment shall be done through bank wire transfer.
Rear Axle: The code I found on the read end is AM 6 21 66 which I believe means "3.36:1 Positraction Manual Transmission (327)". I also took a hard look at the bird cage by sticking my head up under the passenger side of the dash. I can see some very light surface rust on the corner but everything else looks yellowish green. I can't get the camera to focus on it otherwise I would share some additional pics. I was able to get my hand up there and everything feels solid.
