About this vehicle

I've owed this car for 29 years and Wifey says it's finally time for a new model for her to drive with improved safety features.  Meticuously maintained, alway garaged, purchased out of Atlanta and never driven above the Mason-Dixon line.

I am not a dealer and therefore am not looking to make any "profit" on this sale.  I'm hoping that our family car goes to a good home and can be appreciated by the new owner.  This 850 has a rebuilt transmission and a bunch of new maintenance done over the past one year making it a reliable driver over the next years.

Vehicle Details

Technically this is a two owner Volvo, but I’ve owned the car the last 29 years. Besides two transmission rebuilds and one trip to the dealer to replace an ABS module when I was out of the country, I've done all the work myself.

We purchased the car in the summer of 1995 out of Atlanta with 17K miles. It has spent all its life garaged in South Carolina and has never seen a salty road. I've kept all the receipts since I've owed it except for older tires and batteries that were subsequently replaced.

We made the tough decision when our transmission shop located and bought that last known OEM transmission pump in the country. Parts are obviously getting more difficult to find every year. This car is a daily driver and we can’t afford excessive downtime looking for parts.

Facts: the 'good:'

- 202K miles being driven ~5K miles/year now. Odometer reads 191K due to broken/replaced speedo gear.

Facts: the 'bad:'

- Car has a salvage title due to a parking lot accident ~10 years ago where the right rear door was crushed by an elderly lady backing out and not seeing the car. The subsequent door replacement and right side paint job cost more than 75% of the book value so the state of SC automatically issued a salvage title. There was some damage to the rear of the right front door that was repaired in a very professional manner but a sharp eye can see the bodywork. There was absolutely no underbody damage!

- Car was in an accident twenty years ago where the driver's mirror, front left fender, headlight and hood were hit and repaired to a high standard. I see it now only because the clear coat is flaking off the mirror.

- The rear tailgate squeaks a little even after being rebuilt with the kit commonly sold to quiet it down.

- There appears to be a very small, intermittent, coolant leak at the center of the radiator losing a tablespoon when parked hot. But often times there is no leak. I add a cup of coolant every few months.

- I've not operated the sunroof in 10 years since the headliner on the sunroof panel has failed and binds going back. The sunroof worked fine prior. Headliner at front of vehicle under visors is failing. Most of the other headliner is intact. The sunroof does not leak.

- Many of the small lights illuminating the HVAC and transmission selector have burned out.

- The rubber on the Roof to bodyside seal on both sides is beginning to separate. Fortunately, the core metal is stainless steel.

- Gas tank leaks a little fuel when filled to the very top; the fuel pump sealing ring did not properly seat when I replaced the fuel pump even after many attempts to re-seat it. So I fill to one gallon under full.

-Passenger side airbag cover is warped due to heat cycles.

- Remote control does not operate the tailgate. It must be locked/unlocked with the key.

- The fuel door no longer locks when the car is locked.

- There is a small paint chip on the front bumper near the right headlight that can be easily fixed with primer and repaint; no bondo required.  It’s been on my bucket list for a few years.

I rarely see these cars on the road any longer as the cost to maintain these turbo engines to a high standard is prohibitively expensive if serviced by the dealer. And that PVC system must be serviced every 50-100K miles!

Pic of floor shows the car after parked for one week. Video is a cold start (still need to post.)

Feel free to ask questions and I’ll post answers for all to read. Pay now and pick up when convenient to both of us. I need the garage space by September 1st.

On Jun-21-24 at 15:15:40 PDT, seller added the following information:

- Replaced the ignition switch 7 years ago.  It’s a little pain but one key fits the ignition and another key fits the doors and trunk.  So the car comes with four keys and two remotes.
