The mid-80s were strange times for performance car enthusiasts. The glory days of the muscle car era were now 15 years in the dust. Car manufacturers were promoting miles per gallon instead of horsepower. Front-wheel drive, fuel injection, strut suspensions, and electronic dashboards have now taken over the wonderful simplicity of power with rear-wheel application. To celebrate a fifteen-year alliance between performance icon Hurst and Oldsmobile, the W40 Hurst Oldsmobile 15th Anniversary edition was created with a back-to-basics approach: Body frame construction, control arm front suspension, and a powerful V8 driving a live rear axle. Production was limited to just 3001 examples, all were built in Lansing, MI, all were shipped to a secondary manufacturer, Cars and Concepts, for Hurst modifications, all were V8 powered and all were painted Black with Silver skirts separated with red striping. The 83 Hurst Olds captured the essence of an era when performance and style were king.
We are pleased to offer this excellent example of the 1983 Hurst Oldsmobile 15th Anniversary Edition. Fresh out of a private collection in Texas. The car has remained in the caring hands and has driven just over 95000 miles until our recent acquisition. Factory options include a 5.0 liter V8, Automatic transmission with the signature Hurst "Lightning Rod' shifter package with Console, Power Steering, Power Brakes, functioning Air Conditioning, Cruise, Tilt, AM/FM Cassette, Power Driver Seat, Power Trunk Release, Clock, Power Antenna, Dual Mirrors with Inside Adjust, Hurst T-Tops, etc. The car has always been cared for, and has never been in any accidents. Today as a result of consistent care, limited use, and proper storage, the car remains in excellent all-around original condition. The cloth interior remains excellent original in all areas, the paint remains excellent, the engine compartment is tidy and detailed, etc. Mechanically the vehicle remains very fit and is a blast to drive. The removal of the T-tops gives a great open-air experience.
The relationship between Hurst and Oldsmobile is legendary. Oldsmobile, being an upscale brand of General Motors, also took its performance very seriously and its performance-based Hurst Cutlasses remain revered in all automotive circles. The 1983 Anniversary editions are already considered a future classic and now is an excellent time to exercise the opportunity on an American automotive investment.
