Of all the "A-Body" intermediate muscle cars produced by GM in the 1960s and early 1970s, the Oldsmobile 442 was best known for its winning combination of all-around performance and sophistication, in addition to blistering acceleration. From relatively humble beginnings in 1964 as a civilianized version of Oldsmobile's new "Police Apprehender Pursuit" package, the 442 was relentlessly developed into what Hot Rod magazine declared "the thinking man's GTO" in a 1970 road-test report.

For 1970, Oldsmobile's engineers took full advantage of the removal of GM's edict prohibiting its intermediate models from using engines larger than 400 cubic inches. Accordingly, the 1970 edition of the 442 featured a 365-horsepower, 455 CI V-8 as standard equipment. With its 10.5:1 compression ratio, stout internals, high-flow Rochester carburetor and dual exhaust, the 455 belted out an incredible 500 pounds-feet of pavement-melting torque at just 3,200 rpm. While easily capable of 14-second quarter-mile times in stock trim, the 442 was quite docile in everyday driving and with its single carburetor and hydraulic valvetrain, surprisingly easy to maintain. Promoting its storming 442, Oldsmobile advertising featured the maniacal "Dr. Oldsmobile" and his obedient henchmen, adding a fun and cheeky twist to muscle car marketing in 1970.

Built at the Framingham, Massachusetts assembly plant, this 1970 Oldsmobile 442 Hardtop was restored to exceptionally high standards by the noted Oldsmobile marque experts at Thorton Muscle Cars. The matching numbers 455 CI Oldsmobile V-8 engine, factory-rated at 365 HP and 500 lb.-ft of torque, is paired with the original Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission. Highly sought-after features include the legendary W25 outside air induction system with fiberglass hood, Pearl White upholstery and bucket seats, factory air conditioning, a center console, Hurst Dual/Gate shifter, and Anti-Spin limited slip differential. Amenities include a Sport steering wheel, original 8-Ttrack stereo, original Rally Pack gauges with tachometer, and dual Sport mirrors. The trunk features a correct plaid floor mat, mounted spare, and factory-type instructional decals. Super Stock II wheels mount new and correct Goodyear Polyglas G70-14 tires.

Looking fabulous and correct, with awesome all-around performance, this 1970 Oldsmobile 442 is quite likely one of the finest in existence. Ready to show and enjoy, it is a collector-grade example throughout. Contact us to experience it first-hand, obtain full details and get ready to make it yours today!

Bidders with less than 5 feedbacks must contact us prior to bidding. If you do not contact us, we reserve the right to cancel your bid without notice. Please do not ask our reserve price, simply bid what you are comfortable with.

Your winning bid is a contract to purchase the vehicle, not a "come, look, and negotiate." This is a serious auction for serious buyers only. Please ask all relevant questions prior to bidding. All vehicles are sold as-is. By placing a bid, you are agreeing to these terms of sale.

Winning bidder must communicate with Seller by phone within 24 hours of the end of auction to make arrangements to complete transaction.  If no contact is made, we reserve the right to re-list the vehicle, sell it to the next highest bidder, or sell it otherwise.

As-Is:

The Last Detail has described the above-mentioned vehicle to the best of our ability, however, as with all pre-owned automobiles, the condition is subjective, and recommend that the buyer inspect and test drive the vehicle before finalizing their purchase.  The Last Detail shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects associated with the vehicle at the buyer’s request prior to close of sale.  No allowances or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, imperfection, defect or damage. Any descriptions or representations are for identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle, and to have satisfied himself or herself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgement solely.  It is the sole responsibility of the buyer to verify the existence of options, accessories and the vehicle condition before time of sale. Any and all differences must be addressed prior to the time of sale. The Last Detail assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any oral statements about the vehicle.  Despite our best efforts to verify a vehicle’s mechanical condition, we are not able to warranty a manufacturer’s workmanship or a previous owner’s diligence in care of said vehicle.  There are no mechanical guarantees, expressed or implied. We will not be responsible for buyer’s remorse or issues to said vehicle once it has left our premises. We are being realistic; most of the cars we sell are vintage and by their very nature will need TLC and some degree of attention sooner or later.  Therefore, all vehicles are sold “AS IS”.  However, extended warranty options are available on most vehicles.  Please inquire if you are interested.

Mileage:

Vintage cars in excess of 10 years of age, in most US states, mileage may be recorded as “exempt”. The Last Detail makes no warranties as to the accuracy of the mileage indicated or shown and accepts no responsibility for any discrepancy with independent reports such as CarFax, Autocheck, etc. Unless the vehicle is advertised as an original mileage car, do not assume that the mileage/odometer reading is the actual mileage. It is simply what the odometer is reading at the time pictures are taken. MILEAGE IS NOT ACTUAL UNLESS STATED SO IN THE DESCRIPTION! Vehicles are test driven and mileage may vary at time of sale.
