This particular 1984 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur has been finished in the most desired color, featuring a tuxedo black exterior over barley, (beige), hides with black piping and tan Wilton carpeting. It also comes with a beautifully finished trunk with more tan Wilton wool carpeting and that proper British black edging! A remarkable example that shows nicely with just a few dents and dings as well as some scratches in the paint in various areas.
Exterior
Nicely preserved...black paint as noted shows a few faults but based on mileage and year it is in overall good condition. The chrome and badging look clean and shiny as it encompasses the beautiful chromed iconic Rolls-Royce grille in near perfect condition and the Spirit of Ecstasy atop the large grille and radiator surround. The bonnet is long and luxurious as it makes its way back to the large greenhouse which is covered with a non-faded black vinyl top. Moving downward we shake hands with the slab side steel that is rust free, has nicely minded gaps, and just a touch of class with a dual white pinstripe running from stem to stern. The large boot deck with proper badging curves downward and frames the oversized square/rectangular design taillights. Pristine Rolls-Royce logo wheel covers have a black matching band near the center, and these 15-inch wheels are wrapped with thin whitewall striped Cooper Trendsetter rubber from the 16th week of 2021. All in all, in cracking shape mate.
Interior
Comparable to a bank safe door, the doors on this luxury skate swing effortlessly, but its weight can be witnessed when doing so. But you can have the chauffeur open it for you, as opening doors is so pedestrian. Barley colored hides, wood burl, and Wilton carpet make up the panels of the doors which house shiny inserts for the power windows, and door handle. The armrest is showing some wear and soiling and the drivers side sill is showing delamination of the wood. Placing your bum firmly in the wide luxurious barley colored hide covered buckets you'll get accustomed to plentiful padding and the striking black accenting piping. These seats show cracking and wear throughout. Armrests make an appearance over the center console and show some wear and soiling on their stitched edges as well. Infinite adjustability is the mantra for the seats and mirror toggles and an ashtray which are seen here as well, all framed in actual wood burl. Moving to the rear bench there will be plenty of room for the queen bee and her gentleman caller. If the mood strikes you, pull down one of the folding picnic tables, (in beautiful lacquered burl), and have a spot of tea and some popovers prior to pulling up to the boardroom. The door panels in back sport an ash receptacle and an inset lighter. The dash is loaded with instrumentation, climate controls, burl, and leather and all are in the round. The burl is cracking and delaminating throughout. There is a center panel housing an AC vent and an aftermarket Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo system. More tan wilton carpeting covers the floors and above is a smooth broadcloth headliner, also slightly soiled. Blimey!
Drivetrain
A pop of the bonnet and we are greeted by a clean, but patina covered engine bay. Grabbing the center of attention, is the 6.75 liter V8 that is original to the car. It sports Bosch K-Jetronic electronic fuel injection and a 3-speed TH400 automatic transmission is bolted to the rear of the mill. On back turning the tires is a 3.07 geared rear axle. All quite right! You're bloody well right.
Undercarriage
Overall the undercarriage is well preserved, coated in rustproofing and black paint, however we do note a few areas of structural problems. These are reserved for the flooring for both front seat occupants and a small area in the driver's rear. This invasive rust has eaten away at the pans and has created soft metal surrounding the holes. Some of the rustproofing has chipped off and reveals surface rust underneath as well. Meanwhile, independent suspension, and 4-wheel power disc brakes, help with the ride and the stopping and we are all buttoned up. Bob's your uncle.
Drive-Ability
I had the pleasure to take this car out for a tool around Morgantown, and it drove swimmingly. It rode like a dream, (or like you are on a Silver Cloud...OH WAIT!). I noticed the left turn signals and reverse lights are not working, the speedometer is slow to respond and the odometers, (trip and actual mileage), are not working. Otherwise it was a smashing, (thankfully the Brit version of this word!), car to drive, and during the short jaunt, received several waves and whistles, but it could have been the spirit of our departed Sir Lawrence, who's passion for people was only overshadowed by his passion for British luxury cars.
We have a well worn car here, in good overall condition. Go ahead, live it up! Chip chip cheerio and all that rot!
