The Jeep Scrambler was introduced by AMC Jeep in 1981 and production lasted through 1986, though there is only one 1986 Scrambler to ever be discovered that we know of.  This first year Scrambler is in outstanding original condition overall.  This listing will include as complete of a disclosure as I can possible write.  No surprises here....when you receive the Jeep it'll be exactly (or better) than you think it'll be.  Hagerty states the Jeep Scrambler is in the top 10 most collectible vehicles in 2024!  You can rest assured this is a worthwhile investment that is guaranteed to only increase in value.

This Jeep lived in CA, AZ, TX, and back to AZ.  As far as I know, I'm the 4th owner.  There is absolutely no rot on this Jeep anywhere to be found.  I know Jeeps well and inspected this Jeep thoroughly, especially in all the rot-prone areas and rust does not exist on this Jeep.  All you'll find is superficial/infrequent surface rust on the frame and undercarriage.  The floorboards are overall outstanding condition.

The only known item to not be original is the transmission.  I believe this Jeep was originally equipped with a SR4 transmission, which was AMC's least desirable offering.  One of the previous owners swapped in a Tremec T5 5-speed transmission as an upgrade.

To the best of my knowledge, the paint on this Jeep is all original, except for the passenger front fender.  I don't know if this Jeep was in a minor fender bender, but the passenger front fender does show evidence of a repaint.  It's nothing obvious and only noticeable if you're really looking for it.  It was in my shop for a few weeks before I even noticed it.

Here are some of the highlights of this Jeep:

  • Original AMC 258 6-cylinder motor.   Runs flawlessly and still maintains high compression
  • T5 t-speed transmission
  • Dana 300 transfer case
  • AMC 20 rear axle
  • Dana 30 front axle
  • Purse stripe Laredo high back bucket seats
  • Original Jeep AM/FM/CB radio
  • Factory AC (needs a recharge)
  • New factory correct wooden bed rails
