This was the most expensive Mercury in 1951. We have maintenance records going all the way back to 1989. It was living in California when the owner of 25 years sold it to a gentleman in Arizona. What a fun car to own. It immediately makes me think of the Beach Boys, surfboards, and sandy beaches.

EXTERIOR: The metal is rust free, no bubbles or damage. It's straight and painted smooth and glossy. The wood also appears to be solid and in very good shape. Straight original chrome. It is rolling on radial white wall tires.

INTERIOR: It has three row seating; the seats are completely recushioned and upholstered. The headliner and visors were redone. The rubber mat on the floor is in excellent shape. The wood side panels have been refinished glossy. The metal trim has the wood grain painted on, it's in good original shape. The dash area is good original.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Smooth running flathead V8 with a set of vintage headers. The previous owner had it serviced including rebuilding the generator. The radiator and chrome hoses were replaced. Everything looks clean and proper.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The tailgate opens very smoothly and easily. It is counter balanced very well considering there's a spare tire mounted to it. Inside is wood and chrome is great shape.

UNDERSIDE: Appears to be rock solid. Underneath the floors and frame are clean. We have years of maintenance records so mechanically it's been taken care of as needed. Independent suspension in front. Drum brakes at all four wheels, the e-brake assembly is hooked up. Looking up at the motor it's clean, not greasy. It's a 3-speed manual transmission with the optional overdrive. 15 years ago, the transmission was overhauled and the clutch replaced. A new drive shaft was made.

SERVICE: We inspected the car and repaired the turn signals replace the lens

CONCLUSION: This is a very solid and honest car. Not perfect but it's a good one!

I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year membership.

About Volo Auto Museum

No other collector car dealer has been in business longer than the Volo Auto Museum.  Owned and operated by the Grams family since 1960.  We are the only collector car dealer that has 4 generations of experience with buying, selling and consigning classic autos.  For our family, classic cars are more than a business, it is a passion.  Over the decades, we have maintained a reputation for dealing with integrity as proven with our high reviews and A+ rating with the BBB.

Buying a classic car can be exciting, but also stressful.  We want to take the stress out of your buying experience by allowing you the time and tools you need to get to know the car you are interested in before making your investment, not after.  Unlike auctions, we allow test drives, 3rd party inspections, the use of our shop and car lift.  No reasonable request will be turned down.

Selling a car can be equally stressful, but it doesn’t have to be.  After reviewing your quality collector car, we will discuss the options we have available to you and let you decide what works best for you.  We have cash available for immediate sales and we also offer a consignment program that surpasses anyone else’s.   Unlike percentage based programs with fees; we work with a no fee, net to owner.  This allows us the opportunity to treat and market your car as if it were our own.  We invest approximately $1500 of our own money into marketing your car, which means if it doesn’t sell, we lose, not you.  So, we are more aggressive in selling your car!
