1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS-454

Description

1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS - An extremely RARE example of Chevy's big body Super Sport with original numbers matching drivetrain and loaded with desireable options! 1 of only 1,919 SS-454 Monte's produced for the model year! 1971 was about the end-of-an-era for the high-performance muscle car scene due to emissions and insurance but GM went out with a bang offering some heavy hitters fo those who still wanted to pound the pavement. The Monte Carlo was the "luxury performance" model offering more space and a nice ride however most of them were underpowered with the small-block 350 powerplant. The big-block 454 "Super Sport" option was made available for 70/71 and considered a diamond-in-the-rough for upper class gearheads. Only 1,919 of these sleeper's were built for it's final production year, making this car extremely desireable amongst enthusiasts today. Powered by it's original and rebuilt drivetrain including the special "LS-5" 454/365hp "CPD-suffix" engine with a Turbo-400 automatic transmission and 12-bolt posi-rear with 3:31 gears. During the rebuild a few updates were made including a small Cam, upgraded Edelbrock 4bbl carb with electric choke and an electronic ignition system. The SS package also included dual exhausts, a heavy-duty suspension, front and rear sway bars and of course, factory power steering and power front disc brakes. Correct set of 15" GM Rally Wheels have been wrapped in newer BFG white-letter radial tires and really compliment that iconic muscle stance. The original "auto-level" system these cars came equipped with has been disconnected  (which is comon) but you can still see some of the original components in-tact under the hood. Car runs strong, rides beautifully and can be enjoyed at any speeds. Exterior has received a color change from the original Cottonwood Green to a more attractive (and correct for '71) "Placer Gold" with a new vinyl roof installed.  Paint shows very well all around with the exception of just a couple minor blemishes that have been touched-up (pictured). All original SS trim, badging and stainless is in-tact with nice chrome bumpers. Interior is an absolute time capsule straight out of the 70's with the "antique jade" vinyl treatment throughout. Loaded with goodies such as correctly optioned power bucket seats with center console, floor-mounted staple shifter, woodgrain trim, gauge package, comfort-sport steering wheel with tilt column, remote mirros, power windows, heat, and ICE COLD factory A/C which has been converted to R-134. The original radio has also been replaced with an updated AM/FM/Bluetooth unit from RetroSound for your listening pleasure. Original spare and jack can be found in the trunk. Underneath the hood is nicely detailed and underneath is free from any current rust or rot issues.
