The design of the Plus 8 dates back to the Morgan 4/4 of 1936, a car which remains in production form even to this day. In 1968, Morgan introduced a V8 version featuring the alloy block 3.5 liter Buick-Rover V8. The V8 gave the Plus 8 iconic performance making it the fastest accelerating British car with its power-to-weight ratio along with its limited slip differential. The Plus 8 remained in production as long as this engine did through the mid-2000s. Morgan revived the Plus 8 design from 2012-2018 using a BMW V8. Always hand built, Morgan allowed its customers a choice of customizations giving its clientele an unmatched driving enthusiast experience.
The Plus 8 has been extensively restored and upgraded with a high level of attention to detail. The fighter cockpit-like details include exposed rivets, leather strapping and raw aluminum features. Over $55,000 was spent from 2012 to 2016 to create this bespoke Morgan. Mechanical upgrades include a comprehensive engine rebuild in 2016, new wiring harness, new brake booster, new brakes, rotors and calipers, new axle seals, new shock absorbers, roll bar installation, new lamps, hoses, upgraded electrical components, new custom made radius rods, rebuilding the shifter, linkage and adapting a new mount system for improved shifting, Magnaflow exhaust mufflers, and full servicing on the intake manifold and Edelbrock carburetor, engine timing, and improved fuel delivery.
Bespoke cosmetic touches include specially machined wheel center caps to match the recently refinished cast wheels, louvered rear panel, front fog lamp mount, painted roll bar, dual fuel fillers, aluminum bomber-type bucket seats, custom upholstery, new toggle switches, and custom turned steering wheel center. Chronographs are mounted on the glovebox door, the rear package shelf has hinged storage compartments and in homage to vintage racing traditions, an exposed display of 8 spare spark plugs are behind the ring-ventilated rugged textured tan leather seats.
In its most recent ownership, this Morgan has been extensively looked after and well serviced. As stated above, this Plus 8 has been enjoyed during the 2019 Copperstate 1000 tour and it never missed a beat. We know this first-hand because we drove it on the rally and we have enjoyed its ownership for several years. :)
This one of a kind Plus 8 is dialed in and exceptional in every way. It is accompanied by its tonneau cover, side windows, spare wheel and service records.
