I picked this M38 up a couple of years ago and it’s been sitting on jack stands ever since. None of the original electrical still exists as far as generator, regulator, starter and such. It was converted to 12v long before I got it. I’ve had it running on the stands and the engine is smooth and quiet. It has a serial number that begins with RM denoting it is a remanufactured engine. During this time I’ve shifted the transmission and transfer case through all gears and they all function as they should. There are manual lockout hubs on the front. I’ve run the engine on several occasions 20-30 minutes and there has been no indications of overheating. Body overall is pretty good. The front floors and hat channels are rusted out and will have to be replaced. This Jeep was assigned to the forest service at one time as indicated by the orange paint. They were often used for weed and brush control and had a tank in the back with a pump located in passenger area. There was a plate welded over the tool box that normally held the pump and sprayer. Because of the chemicals and leaks the floors were the first to go. You can tell by the body sag, the hat channel mounts are shot. I was going to put a repop body on it. But they’re only original once and with new front floors, hat channels and tool box, it can be saved. The rest is just body work. At 78, I just don’t have what it takes to tackle it. The brake drums have been removed to make it easier to roll around if needed. Windshield frame is excellent. No glass. Hood, front fenders and grille are good with nothing more than light surface rust in places. There is only a drivers seat frame. All the original knobs are on the shifters. It has NOS headlight rings and repo headlight protectors. Frame is good with only surface rust from what I can see. Tail gate is supposedly a NOS item but I’m not sure. The original tailgate comes with it and it has an original spare tire mount on it. The PO bought a new gas tank but of course he cheaped out and got a 3A tank. I’ve never put gas in it. The dash panel has new gauges. All the original brass tags are on the dash. It doesn’t have a DOD date stamped so I’m thinking it went straight to the forest service and never made it to the marines. I can temporary wire it and make it run. To be clear, it is an M38, but most of the original bits and pieces that it would have come with are long gone. I did find an M38 drivers side seat frame, but so far no luck on original passenger side. I have and can take any pictures you might require. Questions are always welcome. Reserve is reasonable and basically covers what I have in it plus transportation cost. Thanks for your interest.
